June 23, 2025 | Men's Basketball
EJ Neal comes to USC from Sacramento State.
LOS ANGELES – USC Men's Basketball has added another player to the roster for the upcoming season in EJ Neal, Head Coach Eric Musselman announced today.
"We're excited to welcome EJ Neal to our Trojan family," Musselman said. "EJ provides our program with another experienced player. EJ will bring another perimeter shooter to our roster. EJ plays with tremendous energy and has good defensive awareness as he is an excellent charge-taker."
Neal comes to the Trojans from Sacramento State, where he played in all 32 games for the Hornets, starting in 25 of them. During that time, he finished in double figures 13 times, including his season high of 18 points against Weber State. Throughout the season, Neal averaged 8.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists.
Prior to Sacramento State, Neal played a season at Idaho. After recovering from injury, he played in the final 10 games of his junior season, averaging 10.9 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. Along with that, he was shooting at 44 percent from the field.
His collegiate career began at the City College of San Francisco, where he was the Coast North Defensive Player of the Year. Along with that, Neal was also named as a two-time All-Coast North First Team selection, was selected to the state championship all-tournament team, and earned a spot on the All-NorCal First Team. As if that wasn't enough, he led his team to a CCCAA State Championship during his sophomore season, where he also averaged 11.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. He also helped his team earn the state title as a freshman.
His high school career started at Sacred Heart Cathedral in San Francisco before he transferred to Balboa High School in San Diego as a senior. During his high school career, he was a two-time All-West Catholic Athletic League Second Team honoree.
Neal is the 10th player to transfer to USC for the upcoming season. He is also the fifth California native to join the roster.
