
Baker-Mazara Signs With USC Men's Basketball

Chad Baker-Mazara comes to USC from Auburn University.
LOS ANGELES – USC Men's Basketball will bolster its roster once again as Head Coach Eric Musselman announced the addition of Chad Baker-Mazara today.
"We are excited to welcome Chad to the Trojan Family," Musselman said. "Chad will bring a tremendous amount of experience to our program. He's a proven winner and will be a player that we can play all over the floor. Chad will be one of the best returning players in the country this year. Chad plays with incredible passion and emotion that can lift a home crowd."
Baker-Mazara comes to USC after spending two seasons at Auburn. Most recently, he helped the Tigers make their way to the Final Four in the NCAA Tournament, leading the team in that game with 18 points to go along with four steals. During the season, Baker-Mazara played in all 38 games for the Tigers, grabbing 34 starts along the way. This finalist for the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year award averaged 12.3 points and 3.0 rebounds per game on his way to earning NABC Division I All-Southeast District First Team and All-SEC Third Team honors. He also secured double-digit points in 25 games this season, including a season-high 22 points against Kentucky.
He also found success in his first season with the Tigers. Baker-Mazara played in 35 games and started in nine of them. The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, native helped Auburn win the SEC Tournament while earning a spot on the all-tournament team along the way. Baker-Mazara averaged 10.0 points and 3.7 rebounds per contest this season while notching double-digit points in 20 of the 35 games he played in. This included a season-high 25 points against Georgia late into SEC play.
Prior to Auburn, Baker-Mazara spent one season at Northwest Florida State College, where he led the Raiders to the NJCAA National Championship game. The 6-foot-7 forward led the team in points, rebounds, and assists as he shot 46.9 percent from three-point range. Baker-Mazara was named on the All-Panhandle Conference First Team while also snagging NJCAA Region 8 Most Outstanding Player and All-Tournament Team honors.
Baker-Mazara spent his sophomore season at San Diego State, where he was named the Mountain West Conference's Sixth Man of the Year. He played in 31 games with the Aztecs as he averaged 6.4 points and 2.0 rebounds per game. Along the way, he led the Aztecs in free throw percentage, shooting at 89.8 percent from the charity stripe. Not only that, but he showed up for the Aztecs in the NCAA Tournament as he led the team in scoring with 17 points against Creighton.
His college career began at Duquesne, where he appeared in 15 games for the Dukes. Baker-Mazara ranked third in the Atlantic 10 Conference in three-point percentage, shooting at 41.7 percent from beyond the arc. He also became the first freshman in school history to make seven three-pointers in a game, making seven against Fordham. Baker-Mazara finished his time in Pittsburgh averaging 9.5 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.
Before his time in Pittsburgh, Baker-Mazara played at Colonia High School in New Jersey for two seasons, where he led the team to back-to-back final four appearances in the Greater Middlesex Conference tournament. Following his senior year, the forward was honored as the Home News Tribune Boys Basketball Player of the Year. After his time in New Jersey, he spent one season at SPIRE Academy in Ohio, where his team ranked eighth nationally following the regular season when they posted a 23-4 record.
Throughout his collegiate career, he has accumulated 1,159 points, 348 rebounds and 214 assists. He became the seventh player to join USC's roster through the transfer portal.
