Whyte, Kaalund & Gerald Earn Big Ten T&F Weekly Honors

Trojans win 8 of the first 12 conference weekly awards
Madison Whyte was named Women's Track Athlete of the Week, Garrett Kaalund Men's Track Athlete of the Week and Elias Gerald Men's Co-Field Athlete of the Week for March 26-April 2, it was announced by the conference office today (April 2). The Trojan program has had athletes earned eight of the first 12 Big Ten weekly honors.
The sophomore Whyte won the 400m and placed second in the 200m (top among collegians) at the Battle on the Bayou from March 28-29. Whyte placed second in the 200m with a PR and NCAA-leading time of 22.52 on March 28. That time moved her to eighth on USC's all-time list. The next day Whyte won the 400m dash with a PR and NCAA-leading time of 50.91. That time moved her into a sixth-place tie on USC's all-time list. Whyte currently ranks seventh in the world in the 200m and 12th in the 400m. Whyte also ran on USC's 4x100m relay which ran 43.62 at the Battle on the Bayou which ranks seventh among NCAA teams this season.
Kaalund, a junior transfer, won the men's 200m dash with a PR and NCAA-leading time of 20.05 (+1.4) at the Battle on the Bayou on March 28. His time is also tied for the current world lead in the event and moved him to sixth on USC's all-time list. Kaalund also ran the second leg on USC's 4x100m relay on March 29 which won with a time of 38.60. The 4x100m relay time is second among NCAA teams and is tied for third on USC's all-time relay list.
The junior Gerald won the men's high jump competition at the Battle of the Bayou on March 29 with a PR and NCAA-leading clearance of 7-3.75 (2.23m). Gerald currently leads all Big Ten high jumpers by 4.25 inches.
Trojans earning Big Ten track and field weekly honors during the outdoor season have been: Racquil Broderick (M-Field, March 26), Ashley Erasmus (W-Track & W-Freshman, March 26), Elias Gerald (M-Co-Field, April 2), Garrett Kaalund (M-Track, Aprl 2), Christine M. Mallard (W-Track, March 26), Yougendy Mauricette (M-Track, March 26) and Madison Whyte (W-Track, April 2).
