STATE COLLEGE, Penn. – The USC baseball team won its fifth straight series on Sunday, taking the rubber game at Penn State, 11-6, behind another double-digit hit total.

The Trojans rebounded after losing the opener, putting up 17 runs on 24 hits over the final two games to win both. USC improves to 23-12 overall and 11-7 in Big Ten play with the win. Penn State falls to 22-12, 10-8.

After falling behind early, the Trojans came back with a five-run third inning to grab a 5-1 advantage. USC tacked on a sixth run in the fourth, but Penn State came back with a grand slam from Ryan Weingartner in the bottom half of the fourth to make it a 6-5 game.

Brayden Dowd had RBI doubles in both the third and fourth innings for USC, and Abbrie Covarrubias had a two-run single in the third.

Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek answered the Nittany Lions' grand slam with a solo shot the very next inning to put the Trojans back up by multiple runs. USC would score three runs on five hits in the fifth, also getting and RBI single from Covarrubias and an RBI double from Dean Carpentier. The Trojans tacked on insurance runs in both the seventh and eighth innings.

Penn State put up a run in the bottom of the fifth, but the USC bullpen would hold the home team scoreless from there. Dylan Osborne tossed a scoreless 1.1 innings, Brodie Purcell handled the next 1.2 innings and Ethan Hedges came in to throw a scoreless ninth.
