KEY PLAYERS:
- Senior Maddie Dora recorded a new career high for both points and goals as she recorded six points with six goals.
- Redshirt senior Isabelle Vitale earned her 100th career goal as she had a huge afternoon with five goals and one assist.
- Freshman Kaylee Fravert and junior Casey Roberts (transfer from Ohio State) recorded their first two goals for the Trojans. Fravert is the first USC freshman to score this season.
- Sophomore Annie Shields anchored the net, as she allowed just six goals and had seven saves in the winning effort.
- In the draw circle, sophomore Anna Regan and senior Catherine Lord led the charge with five draw controls each. Lord also added a caused turnover to her stat sheet.
- On the defensive end, senior Alexis Niblock posted the most caused turnovers as she had three and two ground balls. Dora and Shields both had three ground balls.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- From the start, the Trojans secured the lead and took advantage of almost every opportunity in the 17-6 victory. It all started as junior Kate Gerrity claimed her first career goal at 12:46 in the first quarter. Vitale earned her 100th goal at 9:34, paired with sophomore Reese Robinson's first point as a Trojan. California would take their first chance at a goal at 4:02, but Vitale would once again find the net to make it 3-1.
- After a defensive-minded first quarter, the floodgates were broken early as Vitale struck again, followed by Dora's hat trick in the second quarter. That three-goal stint started at 11:43 and ended at 8:40, as she would secure her second hat trick of the year and ninth overall. USC would strike two more times with redshirt sophomore Hannah Barron's first goal of the season and another from Vitale. That quarter proved to be the difference maker as USC outscored Cal 7-1, with 11-3 shots on goal advantage.
- The third was less explosive from both sides but still grew the Trojan's lead as they outscored the Golden Bears 5-1. Dora and Vitale would again find their marks to give them two new career highs. However, the story that told the success of the Trojans' offense was that of two newcomers, Fravert and Roberts, who scored their first goals as Trojans.
- As we headed into the fourth, the story was already told, as USC had earned the running clock at 4:42 in the third. From there, it was an even split, with each side scoring three times. All three Trojans' goals came from the same culprits as Dora, Fravert, and Roberts, who all found the net once again before USC won 17-6.
GAME NOTES:
- The Trojans extended their winning-streak to 18 games, as this is the longest winning-streak against one opponent in USC history. The Women of Troy are now 18-1 against the Golden Bears.
- USC moves to 33-23 all-time against current ACC conference members.
- The Trojans are now 8-4 all-time in road openers.
- USC is now 1-0 against California as members of separate conferences.
- This is the Trojans 10th time beating the Golden Bears by 10 or more goals.
