No. 14 USC Women's Volleyball Wins 23rd on Sweep of Michigan State

Abigail Mullen turned in a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs in a sweep of the Spartans
EAST LANSING, Mich. – The No. 14-ranked USC women's volleyball team (23-6, 14-5 Big Ten) collected a 3-0 sweep (25-23, 25-18, 25-19) of Michigan State (18-11, 8-11) at Breslin Events Center on Wednesday, Nov. 26. The 23rd win marks the most in a single season under sixth-year head coach Brad Keller and the most since the 2017 Trojans reached 25 wins.

- Fr. OPP Abigail Mullen produced her seventh double-double with 11 kills (3e, 23att) on .348 hitting to go with 10 digs, two blocks, and an assist.
- Fr. S Reese Messer put up 39 assists to set USC to .333 hitting and had seven digs, three blocks, and three kills.
- RS So. OH London Wijay tallied 11 kills to go with six digs and matched her career high with four blocks.
- Sr. MB Rylie McGinest had a season-high 10 kills (2e, 16att) and hit .500 to go with six blocks and a dig.
- RS So. MB Leah Ford hit .778 and scored seven kills (0e) on nine swings with four blocks (two solo) for 10.0 points.
- RS Jr. OH Adonia Faumuina hit .429 with six kills (0e) on 14 swings.
- Fr. LIB Taylor Deckert had nine digs to go with five assists.
- Sr. LIB Megan Verbiest and Sr. OH Dani Thomas-Nathan each had a pair of service aces. Verbiest also had two digs.
- For the Spartans, Karolina Staniszewska led with 11 kills and 12 digs for the double-double. Bianca Mumcular had 10 kills and three blocks. Malayah Long put up 20 assists with four digs. Lia Schneider had seven digs and three service aces.
- USC hit .333 to Michigan State's .196 and had more kills (48-33), assists (45-31), digs (40-35), and blocks (10.5-6.0). It was the Trojans' 16th match in double-digit blocks. Both teams had five service aces apiece.
- The Women of Troy led, 1-0, in the first set and then climbed uphill against a Spartan lead and endured 10 ties before Ford scored the last three points in a 25-23 win. Ford sandwiched a solo block between a pair of kills to bring USC from down one, 23-22, to a victory. She finished with three kills and a pair of blocks to help USC hit .419 (15k, 2e, 31att). Wijay and McGinest each had four kills apiece and the Trojans put up five blocks to hold MSU to a .200 hitting percentage (14k, 7e) on 35 attacks. Mullen had two of her kills in the first set and dug up seven balls on defense.
- The Trojans went in front, 2-0, on a 25-18 win in set two. USC collected 18 kills (6e, 37att) and hit .324 to outpace the Spartans' .292 hitting percentage with nine kills (2e) on 24 swings. Mullen had seven kills in the second and Wijay racked five, but the Trojans also scored two points on blocks and three on service aces to total 23.0 points in the frame. USC broke the fifth tie of the set when Mullen attacked on one to give the Trojans a 9-8 lead. From there, it was off to the races as Verbiest's ace put USC in front by six, 15-9. MSU mounted a small comeback, but the Trojans held the Spartans off and finished the win with a kill from Wijay.
- USC put up 15 more kills in set three (5e, 37att) and hit .270 to close out the sweep with a 25-19 win. McGinest powered the Trojan offense with five kills while Faumuina tagged three balls for kills. USC went in front, 10-9, when Mullen went crosscourt for the kill and never looked back. McGinest went quick for the kill to make it a six-point lead at 21-15 before Wijay tipped the final ball to the ground for the win.
- USC concludes the regular season at Michigan (21-8, 11-7) in the Crisler Center on Friday (Nov. 28) in Ann Arbor, Mich. The match will be shown live on Big Ten Plus.
- USC improved to 8-2 all-time against Michigan State and goes to 2-1 against the Spartans in East Lansing.
- The Women of Troy reached their highest single-season win total under sixth-year head coach Brad Keller.
- USC goes to 7-2 all-time in the state of Michigan with a 6-1 record in matches played in East Lansing.
- The Trojans reached double-digit blocks (10.5) for the 16th time this season.
- USC collected its 11th 3-0 sweep of the season and the program's 632nd straight-set win all-time.
