No. 14 USC Women's Volleyball Walks Down Wolverines for Four-Set Road Win

London Wijay recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 20 kills and 11 digs in a win over Michigan
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The No. 14-ranked USC women's volleyball team (24-6, 15-5 Big Ten) collected a 3-1 win (25-23, 22-25, 25-23, 25-14) over Michigan (22-9, 12-8) at Crisler Center on Friday, Nov. 28, to secure a tie for third place in the Big Ten. The Women of Troy finish the regular season with the most wins since the 2017 Trojans won 22. USC will share third place with the winner of tomorrow's (Nov. 29) Indiana-Purdue match and will finish behind only conference champion Nebraska and second-place Wisconsin in the final standings.

- RS So. OH London Wijay recorded her seventh double-double (16th career) with 20 kills (4e, 43att) and .372 hitting to go with 11 digs. It was her fourth 20-kill match (fifth career) and her 22nd time with double-digit kills this season. Wijay added an ace and a block to finish with a match-high 21.5 points.
- Fr. S Reese Messer logged her 10th double-double with 48 assists and 10 digs as she set the Women of Troy to a .313 hitting percentage (59k, 18e, 131att) to go with two blocks and two kills.
- Fr. OPP Abigail Mullen had 11 kills (2e, 24att) and hit .375 with six digs, three service aces, and three blocks for 15.5 points.
- RS Jr. OH Adonia Faumuina totaled 15 kills (6e, 33att) with .273 hitting and had three blocks and a dig.
- RS So. MB Leah Ford totaled five blocks (one solo) and had four kills and two digs to finish with seven points.
- Fr. LIB Taylor Deckert totaled 15 digs to lead all players and added three assists.
- For the Wolverines, Allison Jacobs led with 14 kills but hit just .111. Ella Demetrician added 12 kills and 10 digs for the double-double while Serena Nyambio put up eight kills with three blocks. Madi Cuchran had 12 digs and seven assists.
- USC hit north of .300 for the 10th time and finished at .313 with 59 kills (18e) on 131 attacks. The Trojans out-hit Michigan's .207 (49k, 21e) on 135 swings and had more kills (59-49), assists (55-48), aces (7-4), digs (53-43), and blocks (10-7.5).
- The Trojans led by as many as four early in the first set, but the Wolverines equalized at nine-all for the second of seven ties. USC created another four-point lead at 23-19, but Michigan used a 4-1 run to close the gap to one at 24-23 before Messer dumped her pass for the 16th kill in a 25-23 win. The Trojans hit .303 (6e) on 33 swings and overcame five service errors by digging up 19 balls to go with a block to hold the Wolverines to a .128 hitting rate (11k, 6e) on 39 swings. Faumuina tallied five of her kills in the opening frame while Mullen had four. Deckert and Wijay each had six digs apiece.
- The teams traded barbs to nine ties and five lead changes before the Trojans closed out a 25-22 win for a 2-0 lead. Wijay and Mullen each collected four kills in the second as USC hit .300 with 16 kills (4e) on 40 attacks. It took five blocks to hold off the Wolverines who still hit .250 with 15 kills (6e) on 36 swings behind six kills apiece from Jacobs and Demetrician. The Women of Troy led by as many as four early, but Michigan used a 4-0 run to pull even at 15-all. Four ties later, USC broke free on back-to-back kills from Ford for a 21-18 lead en route to the win.
- The Wolverines had the edge for most of the third and led by as many as five points, but USC's 4-0 run pulled the Trojans within a point at 16-15. The Trojans finally forced a tie at 20-all on a cut-shot kill by Faumuina, but Michigan went in front each time through three more ties to finish off a 25-23 win and send the match to a fourth set. Wijay poured in six kills in the third while Faumuina tacked up four kills. USC hit .226 in the third with 12 kills (5e) on 31 swings while Michigan had the upper hand with 15 kills (4e) on 33 attacks and a .333 hitting rate.
- The Trojans never trailed in the fourth and rolled to the 3-1 win on a 25-14 victory. Wijay scored the first four USC points and finished with seven kills without error (10att) to hit .700. The Trojans hit .444 as a team in set four with 15 kills (3e) on just 27 attacks to outpace Michigan's .107 effort (8k, 5e) on 28 attempts. Up, 9-7, on a kill from Wijay, the Trojans went in front by seven, 17-10, when Mullen followed another Wijay kill with an ace. USC scored the final four points with kills from Wijay, Faumuina, and a block from Faumuina and Ford combined.
- USC now awaits the disposition of the NCAA Selection Committee, which will announce its field of 64 participants in the 2025 championship on Sunday, Nov. 30, at 3 p.m. PT live on ESPN.
- USC improved to 3-0 all-time against Michigan and played the Wolverines on the road for the first time in the head-to-head series.
- The Trojans moved to 8-2 all-time in the state of Michigan with a 1-0 record in Ann Arbor.
- The Women of Troy reached double-digit blocks (10.0) for the 17th time this season.
- USC's 24 wins marks the program's most regular-season wins since the 2017 Trojans finished with 22 heading into the NCAA tournament.
- The Trojans finished the regular season winning four in a row and 13 of their last 14 matches to earn a tie for third place in the final Big Ten standings. USC will tie with the winner of the Indiana-Purdue match.
