USC Women's Soccer Heads to San Francisco, No. 1 Stanford

THIS WEEK - The USC women's soccer team continues non conference play on the road with a pair of games this week, playing at San Francisco on Thursday and then at No. 1 Stanford on Sunday.

HOW TO FOLLOW - Thursday's game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and Sunday's will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra. ALL-TIME SERIES VS. USF - The Trojans and Dons have played just once in their history, with USC picking up a 2-0 win in a neutral site game in Hawaii in 2019.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. STANFORD - The Trojans and Cardinal have a long history as both were members of the former Pac-12 up until this season, with USC now playing in the Big Ten and Stanford in the ACC. USC and Stanford first played back in 1993, with the Cardinal holding a 19-7-5 lead in the all-time series since then. The Trojans, however, are unbeaten in their last four matches with Stanford, picking up wins in 2021 (3-2, OT) and 2022 (2-1), and draws in 2020 (0-0) and 2023 (0-0). The last three meetings have been in Los Angeles, with the last match in Palo Alto being the scoreless draw in the 2020-21 (Covid) season.

LAST WEEK AT PORTLAND - The Trojans won their lone game last week, beating Portland 2-1 on the road on Saturday. Kayla Colbert scored her first goal of the season in the first half and then Maile Hayes converted a PK in the second half. USC held the Pilots scoreless for most of the afternoon, but gave up a PK in the 86th minute for the lone goal allowed.

AT PEPPERDINE - The Trojans picked up a comeback win at Pepperdine earlier this year, taking down the Waves 3-1 on Aug. 25. Pepperdine scored in the second minute of the game, but the USC defense held from there on out. The Trojans scored all three of their goals in the second half, getting the equalizer from Faith George, the go-ahead strike from Hannah Griffin and then an own goal off a Simone Jackson cross to cap it. George's goal was the first of her collegiate career.

SHUTOUT AT CBU - The Trojans notched their first win of the season in Riverside on Aug. 18, shutting out CBU 1-0. Maile Hayes scored her second goal of the season in the 11th minute, and the USC defense made it hold up. The Trojans outshot CBU 23-9 in the contest.

PROGRAM RANKING - Soccer Wire recently compiled the numbers from the last five years and ranked the Top 50 programs in the country over that period, with USC coming in at No. 9. USC has reached the postseason each of the last five years and has finished in the Top 25 of the coaches poll each full season during that period.

ECNL STARS - The Trojan roster features back-to-back ECNL U18/U19 Players of the Year after Ines Derrien received the 2024 honor earlier this month. Maribe Flores was the 2023 ECNL U18/U19 Player of the Year as well.

FLORES/JOURDE AT U20 WC - Maribel Flores and Florianne Jourde will start the season at the FIFA U20 World Cup in Colombia. Flores is competing with Mexico and Jourde with Canada. The tournament starts on Aug. 19, with Pool Play wrapping up on Sept. 3 and the championship match on Sept. 22. Flores has previously competed in the 2022 U17 World Cup with Mexico and with the Mexican U20 side in the 2023 CONCACAF Championship. Jourde has been a part of both U17 and U20 sides with Canada, including competing in the last U20 World Cup in 2022. The Montreal native was also named to the CONCACAF Best XI in 2022.
