PROVO, Utah – The USC women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought matchup on the road at No. 9 BYU on Saturday night, falling 2-0 to the Cougars on two late goals.

The teams played even through nearly 70 minutes of play, but the home team BYU broke through with 20 minutes to go and added another late to pick up the win in their home opener. USC falls to 0-2-1 with the loss, while the Cougars move to 2-1.

Through the first 45 minutes of play, both teams managed five shots, with the Trojans putting three on target and BYU two. Both keepers were up to the task in the opening period, making critical saves on quality chances.

Emma Hamberlin broke through for the Cougars in the 70^th minute after a failed clearance on a cross gave her a shot from inside the box. It was again Hamberlin in the 84^th minute as she received a pass, took a touch and found the right post for her second goal of the game.
