Oregon State transfer helped the Beavers reach the 2024 NCAA Elite Eight.
USC women's basketball's backcourt is getting an extra boost with the signing of Talia von Oelhoffen as a grad transfer to join the Women of Troy for 2024-25, head coach Lindsay Gottlieb announced today (May 2). An All-Pac-12 Team selection in her junior season at Oregon State, she helped the Beavers reach the NCAA Elite Eight this past season.
"Talia's basketball IQ is off the charts, and she's incredibly versatile," Gottlieb said of von Oelhoffen. "I think we'll see her thrive in an uptempo system, and she's gifted at making those around her better. She's coming to USC to help us win at the highest levels and will provide leadership that's so important to any team with championship aspirations. I cannot wait to have her in a Trojan uniform."
A 5-11 guard who hails from Tri-Cities, Wash., von Oelhoffen dished out 5.0 assists per game last season while averaging 10.7 points per game for the Beavers. A driving force for OSU in its powerful 2023-24 campaign, von Oelhoffen added Pac-12 Defensive Honorable Mention to her All-Pac-12 Team honors. Also selected MVP of the Maui Classic, she started all 35 games for the 27-8 Beavers, averaging 27.1 minute per game and shooting 38.7 percent from the floor with 45 threes landed along the way.
Von Oelhoffen was the No. 14 rated player in the nation coming out of Chiawana High, where she was Washington 2B Player of the Year and a Jordan Brand Classic All-American. She earned 2021 Pac-12 All-Freshman Honorable Mention after joining the Beavers midway through the 2020-21 season, and she was an 2022 All-Pac-12 Team selection after leading OSU with 13.7 points per game that season. In her 2022-23 sophomore season, von Oelhoffen battled injury while averaging 13.2 points, 3.3 assists and 2.1 steals per game and earned All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention. She set her career high with a 41-point outing vs. Nevada that season as well.
Von Oelhoffen joins a USC team coming off its first NCAA Elite Eight run since 1994 and having won its second Pac-12 Tournament championship. She will play alongside fellow All-Pac-12 Team honorees Kiki Iriafen — who also comes to USC as a grad transfer for 2024-25 — and returning Trojans Rayah Marshall and JuJu Watkins. Von Oelhoffen's addition to the Women of Troy squad gives USC a group of nine newcomers: grad transfers Iriafen and von Oelhoffen, along with the top-ranked freshman class in the nation in Rian Forestier, Kayleigh Heckel, Avery Howell, Vivian Iwuchukwu, Brooklyn Shamblin, Kennedy Smith and Laura Williams.
"The staff and I were very intentional about utilizing the transfer portal to strengthen our team with the right people and players this spring," Gottlieb said. "We are trying to establish an elite program in all ways, and that takes the ability to bring in terrific freshmen, to help the returning players improve and to add the right transfers. We think we did just that."
Von Oelhoffen is completing undergraduate degrees in business and psychology at Oregon State and will pursue a master's degree at USC.
