No. 20 USC Women's Volleyball Collects 20th in Four-Set Win at Washington

The Women of Troy got 17 kills from Ally Batenhorst and 13 from Adonia Faumuina in a victory over the Huskies
SEATTLE, Wash. – The No. 20-ranked USC women's volleyball team (20-9, 12-7 Big Ten) defeated Washington (19-10, 9-10) in four sets (17-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-10) at Alaska Airlines Arena on Wednesday, Nov. 27.

- Gr. OH Ally Batenhorst led all players with 17 kills (5e, 41att) and hit .293 to go with eight digs and two service aces.
- Redshirt So. OH Adonia Faumuina added 13 kills (5e, 38att) with .211 hitting and had four blocks and two digs.
- Sr. S Mia Tuaniga dished out 34 assists and had 13 digs for her eighth double-double of the season (36th of her career) and added five blocks, five kills, and a service ace for 8.5 points.
- Fr. MB Favor Anyanwu scored six kills and had seven blocks for 9.5 points.
- Jr. LIB Gala Trubint had 11 digs for her 67th-career match in double digits and added four assists and a service ace.
- Redshirt Jr. MB Tyrah Ariail produced five blocks (two solo) and had three kills on nine swings to hit .333.
- Jr. DS Megan Verbiest served a pair of aces and had six digs and an assist.
- For the Huskies, Madi Endsley led with 11 kills. Emoni Bush and Kierstyn Barton each had eight kills apiece. Alexis Haury put up 19 assists and five digs while Molly Wilson had 14 assists and 11 digs for the double-double. Lauren Bays led all players with 15 digs. Julia Hunt had six blocks and five kills.
- The opening frame was tied eight times, but USC led, 13-12, before the Huskies ripped through a 13-4 run to sew up a 25-17 result and give UW the win. Washington hit .355 with four kills from Endsley to lead the way. Batenhorst and Faumuina each had two kills for the Trojans, but four Husky blocks held USC to a negative .026 hitting rate with seven kills (8e, 38att). UW gave up nine points from the service line with six service errors and three reception errors.Â
- The Trojans never trailed in the second set and evened the match with a 25-21 win. Batenhorst racked up four kills and led the USC offense to a .414 hitting rate with 14 kills (2e, 29att). The Huskies closed within a single point several times, but USC moved in front by as many as five points and held on to win by four. Both teams logged six service errors each.
- USC broke a nine-all tie in the third with a 5-0 run and Washington never got closer than two points as the Trojans went on top, 2-1, with a 25-19 win. Batenhorst and Faumuina tallied five kills apiece and the USC defense racked up eight blocks to hold the Huskies to a negative .033 hitting rate (9k, 10e, 30att). The Trojans had 14 kills (4e, 33att) and hit .303 in the third. USC's 7-2 run made the score 20-13, but Washington used a 4-0 run to contract the Trojans' lead before the Women of Troy walked away with the win.
- The Trojans produced a gem of a fourth to seal the victory on a 25-10 win. USC hit .500 with 13 kills (1e) on 24 swings and had three more blocks to help hold the Huskies down to a negative .100 hitting rate with six kills (9e) on 30 attacks. Washington led momentarily but the Trojans took a 3-2 lead and were never threatened as a 5-0 run put them on top by 10 points at 16-6. Batenhorst had six of her kills in the frame to lead the USC offense and tallied four digs on defense.
- The Women of Troy will host Iowa (10-20, 4-14) for Senior Night at Galen Center on Friday (Nov. 29). USC will honor Lindsey Miller, Grae Gosnell, Ally Batenhorst, Tyrah Ariail, and Mia Tuaniga in pre-match ceremonies and will take on the Hawkeyes at 7 p.m. PT. The match will be shown live on Big Ten Plus.
- USC improved to 47-33 all-time against Washington and to 19-20 when the teams play in Seattle. It was the Trojans' fourth straight win over the Huskies; the team's longest streak over UW since it won 12 in a row between 1998-2003.
- The Women of Troy moved to 43-36 all-time in the Evergreen State.
- The Trojans finished with 13.5 blocks for the Trojans' 19th match in double-digit blocks this season.
- The win gives USC its 20th of the season and marks the Trojans' second 20-win under head coach Brad Keller; the 35th all-time 20-win season in program history.Â
