USC Baseball Takes down UC San Diego, 4-3

LOS ANGELES, CA --The USC baseball team took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed from there on the way to a 4-3 victory over the UC San Diego Tritons on Tuesday night at Dedeaux Field.
Sophomore Fisher Johnson (3-3) got the win out of the bullpen for USC (25-14-1). The right-hander went 1.2 shutout innings without giving up a hit, no walks and striking out one. Senior Kyle Wisch also pitched well, going one inning, surrendering one run without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out two.
In the batter's box, the Trojans were paced by junior Carson Wells, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Senior Johnny Olmstead compiled a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBI. Senior Nick Lopez also helped out for USC, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Trojans got the scoring started early, putting two runs on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. USC scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Olmstead.
The Trojans then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the third inning after the Tritons cut it to 3-1. USC picked up a run on Wells' leadoff home run off of junior Chris Gilmartin, which brought the score to 4-1 in favor of the Trojans. UCSD put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but USC still held on for the 4-3 win.Â
