USC Baseball Falls 5-3 to No. 17 Auburn in Opener

AUBURN, Ala. – The USC baseball team put the tying run on base in the ninth, but couldn't get the big hit they needed as the Trojans fell to No. 17 Auburn in Friday night's series opener, 5-3.
The Trojans fall to 3-2 on the season with the loss, while Auburn improves to 4-1.
USC jumped on top first with a sac fly from Connor Aoki in the third, but the Tigers put up four runs in the bottom half of the inning to go up for good. USC got another sac fly from Aoki in the sixth and then an RBI triple from Austin Overn in the eighth, but that was it for the scoring.
Johnny Olmstead led off the ninth with a single and then Nick Lopez came up with a two-out single as well, but the comeback fell short as the Trojans couldn't get the game-tying knock.

The Trojans and Tigers continue their series on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT/12 p.m. PT and then finish things up on Sunday at 12 p.m. CT/10 a.m. PT. Both games will be broadcast live on the SEC Network+.
