USC’s Forbes and Watkins Sweep Pac-12 Women’s Basketball Weekly Awards

McKenzie Forbes has her first Pac-12 Player of the Week pick, and JuJu Watkins is Freshman of the Week for the sixth time.
After stretching its undefeated start to the season to 10 straight wins, No. 6 USC has come up with a sweep of the Pac-12's weekly awards. Coming off a career-high scoring performance, grad student McKenzie Forbes has scored her first Pac-12 Player of the Week pick. Now a regular on the awards list, JuJu Watkins has claimed her sixth Pac-12 Freshman of the Week selection.
This is the third time USC has swept the Pac-12's weekly awards, the latest being Watkins' sweep on Dec. 4, and the first coming in 2016 with Minyon Moore (freshman) and Kristen Simon (player) netting awards also on a Dec. 4.
Forbes, who was a two-time Pac-12 Freshman of the Week while playing at Cal years ago, secured her first Pac-12 Player of the Week honors after tallying a season-high 17 points vs. Cal State Fullerton and then more than doubling that effort with a career-high 36 points in an 85-77 road win at Long Beach State. Her 36 points was the most scored in a game by a Trojan since Mariya Moore scored 36 in 2019. Also against the Beach, Forbes made a career-high 13 free throws on a career-high 16 attempts and collected a season-high seven rebounds. She has now scored in double figures in USC's last five games.
Watkins went for 23 points in USC's high-powered 93-44 win over Cal State Fullerton, extending her own streak of leading the Trojans in scoring to nine straight games. She also set new career highs in that tilt, serving up six assists and recording three blocks. Additionally, Watkins made three 3-pointers vs. the Titans to help USC set a program record with 16 made threes in that victory. Watkins did not play in USC's visit to Long Beach State. Now with six Pac-12 Freshman of the Week awards, Watkins is closing in on the Pac-12 record of eight such honors claimed in a season.
Forbes, Watkins and the Women of Troy kick off Pac-12 play later this week, with No. 6/5 USC putting its perfect 10–0 record up against an also-undefeated No. 2 UCLA in a visit to Westwood for a 5 p.m. rivalry clash on Saturday (Dec. 30).
