No. 7 USC Women’s Swimming and Diving Defeats Arizona 159-139

Troy falls to the Wildcats during conference opener.
The No. 7 USC women's swimming and diving team prevailed during their conference opener, defeating Arizona 159-139 in Tucson on Friday, Nov. 3 to win the dual.
No. 16 Troy tallied a handful of event wins, but it wouldn't be enough to overtake the Wildcats, falling 145-155 to drop to 0-1 on the season.
The Women of Troy snagged wins in both relays, claiming the 400y medley and 200y free relay. Caroline Famous, Kaitlyn Dobler, Anicka Delgado and Vasilissa Buinaia opened the meet with a victory in the 4x100y medley relay, clocking a 3:31.58. The afternoon wrapped with Buinaia, Delgado, Kuechler and Abraham claiming the 4x50y free in 1:28.94.
USC newcomers Minna Abraham (1:44.45) and Claire Tuggle (1:48.24) finished 1-2, respectively in the 200y freestyle.
Junior Chris O'Grady recorded an event win in the 200y IM, posting a 1:46.81 to take the event. On the women's side, sophomore transfer Tuggle captured the race in 1:59.87.
USC claimed both distance freestyle events, with Justina Kozan claiming the event for the women in 4:44.52, while Krzysztof Chmielewski blasted a 4:21.02 to win it for the men. K. Chmielewski returned to claim the 1000y free in 8:53.90, while Marlene Kahler touched first in 9:59.63.
In the 200y fly, the Chmielewski brothers finished 1-2, with Krzysztof (1:43.26) and Michal (1.43.68) touching first and second, respectively.
Senior Dobler continued her winning ways, claiming both the 100y breast (58.54) and 200y breast (2:11.05) for the Women of Troy.
Trojan senior Ben Dillard won the 200y breast for Troy in 1:56.57. He was also second in the 100y breast, clocking an NCAA B-cut time of 53.40. O'Grady was third in 53.47.
The Women of Troy swept the sprint freestyle events, with Buinaia (22.51), Caroline Famous (22.57) and Delgado (22.66) going 1-2-3 Trojan finish in the 50y free. In the 100y free, Buinaia recorded her second win (48.01), finishing ahead of Abraham (49.16) and Kuechler (49.73) who touched second and third, respectively.
USC also claimed all four backstroke events, with Caroline Famous (52.18) and Vaggelis Makyrgiannis (47.25) both winning thei 100y backstroke. Makyrgiannis also claimed the 200y back in 1:44.16, while Kozan clocked a season best 1:56.57 to win the 200 for the Women of Troy.
USC's top performances in the diving well came from Shangfei Wang (351.90) and Laurent Gosselin-Paradis (381.83) who captured the men's 1-meter and 3-meter events, respectively. Paradis was also third on 1-meter (336.60) while Wang was fifth on 3-meter (316.20).

The Trojans now shift their attention to tomorrow for one of the most anticipated duals in the country so far this season, a matchup between No. 1 ASU and No. 16 Troy. All eyes are on the 200y fly as On the women's side it'll be No. 7 USC looking to extend their record to 2-0 with a victory over No. 21 ASU.
