USC Swimming and Diving Set For A Pair of Pac-12 Desert Duals

Trojans to face Arizona on Friday and No. 1/21 ASU on Saturday.
LOS ANGELES - The No. 7/16 USC women's and men's swimming and diving teams will be in action this weekend as they hit the road for a pair of Pac-12 desert duals. Friday, the Trojans will face Arizona on Friday (Nov. 3) at 1 p.m. in Tucson and No. 21/1 Arizona State on Saturday (Nov. 4) at 11 a.m. in Tempe.Â

This weekend, USC's diving team will make their highly anticipated 2023-24 season debut against the Wildcats (Nov. 3) and Sun Devils (Nov. 4). The Trojan divers will compete in both springboard events.Â
It will be a ranked matchup for both squads on Saturday morning as the Sun Devil men are the top-ranked team in the country at No. 1, while their women's squad checked in at No. 21 in the latest rankings.Â

DIVING'S DEBUT:
USC will send a squad of 8 divers to the desert this weekend, as the Trojans look to build off of their monumental finish from last season.Â
The Trojan men's diving program swept the Pac-12 postseason awards as head diving coach Hongping Li was named Men's Diving Coach of the Year, junior Shangfei Wang was named Men's Diver of the Year and sophomore Laurent Gosselin-Paradis was Men's Freshman Diver of the Year.
Last season, Paradis won the 1-meter and platform events at the conference championships, while George Korovin won the 3-meter event. Nike Agunbiade also captured the Pac-12 platform competition on the women's side. At the conference championships, the small but mighty squad captured the team Pac-12 Diving title.Â

SO FAR THIS SEASON:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
In their first appearance at home this season, the Trojans captured all six 'dual' wins at the USC Invitational, taking down Hawaii, UCSB and UCSD in the process. The Women of Troy swept all four relays, with Troy also winning three of four relays (400y medley relay, 200y medley relay and 400y free relay).Â
USC touched first in 11 individual events on both the men's and women's sides at the USC Invitational. Claiming 1-2-3-4 in a dominant 200y free performance was Claire Tuggle (1:45.50), Vasilissa Buinaia (1:46.07), Macky Hodges (1:47.81) and Hannah Kuechler (1:48.48). The Chmielewski twins led a 1-2 finish in the 500y free with Krzysztof (4:16.53) and Michael (4:27.36) touching first and second, respectively.
The USC women's squad opened the season with a victory on the road, capturing the SMU Classic Invitational women's team title. Troy finished third at the invite. Â

In Dallas, the Trojans swept the 'Swimmer of the Meet' awards, with Justina Kozan winning on the women's side, and Chris O'Grady claiming the men's high point title.Â
Kaitlyn Dobler captured the 100y breaststroke in a pool and meet record time of 57.35, lowering her previous meet record set last year (59.09). Dobler was the lone Trojan to earn NCAA automatic bids at the meet, meeting the standard in both the 100y (57.35) and 200y breaststroke (2:05.59).Â

Additionally, 14 Trojans picked up NCAA Provisional times.
