USC Women’s Basketball Scores Several National Honors

Following the Trojans' statement win over No. 2 Stanford on Sunday, the USC women's basketball team is officially on the nation's radar. The solid 55-46 victory over the Cardinal notched USC's first victory over a top-two opponent since beating Stanford in 2008, and has deservedly landed the Trojans a set of national honors.

On Monday (Jan. 16), ESPN selected USC's upset victory as its Win of the Week while also naming head coach Lindsay Gottlieb the Coach of the Week. It was USC's second top-five upset win under Gottlieb since she took over the USC program last season.

The Trojans held Stanford to a season-low 19 points in the first half — only four coming in the first quarter — as well as a season-low 29 percent shooting from the floor. USC never trailed in the game either, with the Cardinal pulling even once in the second quarter only to see the Trojans press on and lead it the rest of the way. The decision also snapped a 39-game win streak held by the Cardinal against Pac-12 opponents. USC's impressive efforts locked it in as the U.S. Basketball Writers' Association's National Team of the Week, as announced on Tuesday (Jan. 17).

Individually, USC grad student Destiny Littleton put herself on the national scene with a game-high 18 points along with five assists in the win over the Cardinal, which followed an 18-point outing by Littleton in USC's 63-43 win over Cal two days prior. For her efforts, the guard picked up a spot in NCAA March Madness' Starting Lineup in addition to her selection as the Pac-12 Player of the Week.
