USC Baseball Takes Down LMU, 4-3, on the Road
March 30, 2021 | Baseball
LOS ANGELES – The USC baseball team picked up a 4-3 win on the road at LMU on Tuesday night in a non-conference matchup.
The Trojans move to 11-9 with the victory while LMU falls to 9-14 on the year.
After the Lions jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, thanks to a two-run homer by Diego Baquiero, Jamal O'Guinn evened things up with a two-run double in the top of the second.
The Trojans would break the tie with a run in the third on an RBI single by Clay Owens. A safety squeeze by Taylor Johnson brought home Owens in the sixth to make it a 4-2 game. The Lions added a run in the seventh, but the USC arms held them at bay the rest of the way.
Quentin Longrie came in to pitch after the Lions scored in the seventh, getting a strikeout to end the inning and strand the tying run on third. Longrie then stranded two more LMU runners in the eighth and Ethan Hoopingarner came in and tossed a perfect ninth to pick up the save.
Jaden Agassi got the win after tossing 2.0 relief innings, giving up one hit and no runs. USC used seven pitchers in the game and LMU used nine.
