Missouri native comes to Troy from UC Irvine.
USC women's basketball welcomes aboard grad transfer Jordan Sanders, a former Big West Freshman of the Year, to the Trojans' 2020-21 roster. A 5-11 forward, Sanders has signed on to come to Troy after three years at UC Irvine, USC head coach Mark Trakh has announced.
"Jordan is an electric scoring threat who adds a great deal of experience to our roster," Trakh said of Sanders. "She's proven to have a knack for finishing and rebounding. Jordan took some time away from the game, but joins us with a rejuvenated spark to help elevate our program. We want to extend a warm welcome to Jordan from our Trojan Family."
A native of Springfield, Missouri, Sanders was named the 2017 Ozark Conference Player of the Year as a senior out of Kickapoo High School, where she averaged 21.6 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.0 steals in her final season. All told, Sanders ranked third all-time in career scoring at Kickapoo High with 1,686 points.
From there, Sanders went to UC Irvine and made a first-year splash as a full-time starter. Named the Big West Freshman of the Year in 2018, Sanders went on to earn First Team All-Big West honors as a sophomore and was named to the Big West All-Tournament Team. In that 2018-19 season, she was the conference's second leading scorer and 23rd in the nation with her 20.3 points per game, while also leading the Anteaters on the boards with 7.1 rebounds per game. Again a full-time starter, she notched five double-doubles. Last season, Sanders was averaging 13.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game in seven games before stepping away from basketball for personal reasons.
Having earned a degree in psychology and social behavior at UC Irvine, Sanders will pursue a master's in social work at USC. She joins a powerful set of newcomers to Troy for 2020-21. Alongside incoming freshmen Jordyn Jenkins, Amaya Oliver and Zayla Tinner, Sanders will be the only senior on the USC roster. Last season, USC had been on track for a WNIT appearance after posting a 17-14 overall record by the close of the Pac-12 Tournament before all competition was cancelled by the COVID-19 pandemic.
