Trojan Swim Team Hosts Minnesota

The USC swim team continues the 2019-2020 season with their first home meet of the spring season against the Minnesota Gophers on Friday (Jan. 17) at 2 p.m. at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center, while Trojan divers will compete at the Bruin Diving Invitational Friday through Sunday (Jan. 17-19).
The Trojan women's squad enters the meet 4-0 overall, led by 12 Trojans who've already secured B cuts. Friday's dual marks the second meet of the spring season for the Women of Troy, but the first home meet for both teams who have a little over a month before Pac-12 Championships.
The Trojans kicked off the season at the two-day, three-session Trojan Swim Invite that saw junior Marta Ciesla win the 100y free while sophomore Isa Odgers won the 200y breast and senior Catherine Sanchez captured the 200y fly. Sophomore Victor Johansson led the USC men with a win in the 1650y free.
Odgers then won a career-best three times (100-200y breast, 200y IM) to lead the USC women in their dual-meet opening win against Utah. Senior co-captain Louise Hansson, the two-time NCAA champion in the 100y fly, also made her season debut with a win in specialty. Sophomore Laticia Transom posted her first two-win day as a Trojan with victories in the 50y and 200y free. Sanchez won the 200y fly for the second meet in a row.
At the Art Adamson Invite hosted by Texas A&M, four swimmers combined for a total of seven individual event wins while competing against A&M, Stanford, Hawaii, and Air Force. Sophomore Alexei Sancov posted two record-setting times during the meet, first in the 200y IM with a 1:43.92 and also in the 200y fly with a 1:42.20, shattering the Trojan school record by 0.15 (set in 2006), taking first. Junior Nikola Miljenic set a Texas A&M pool record (22.44) during prelims in the men's 50 LCM free. Sophomore Victor Johansson took the 1650 free with a 14:47.27, earning a B cut.
The Trojan women won four relays during the invite, earning three A cuts in the 200y, 400y and 800y free relays. Senior Louise Hansson took the 200y IM (1:56.17) and 100y fly (50.05), earning the first NCAA A cut of the season for the Trojans. Laticia Transom won the 200y free (1:43.27) and 100y free (47.83).
Most recently, the unbeaten USC women's team traveled to Pullman, Wash., to compete against Washington State. Odgers recorded a meet-best three first-place finishes, winning the 100y (1:02.71) and 200y breast (2:13.04) and the 400y IM (4:25.16). Her performance at Washington State earned her Pac-12 swimmer of the week. Both Odgers (200y breast – 2:13.04) and Hansson (100y fly – 53.98) broke Gibb pool records and contributed to the 155-102 win over the Cougars.

Hansson also has B cuts in the 200y IM (1:56.17) and 100y back (52.43). Other top times include those from fellow seniors Catherine Sanchez (100y fly 53.15, 200y fly 1:55.67) and Tatum Wade (100y free 49.43, 200y IM 1:56.48), juniors Marta Ciesla (50y free 22.21, 100y free 48.27) and Maggie Aroesty (100y breast 1:01.50, 200y breast 2:11.78) Jemma Schlicht (50y free 22.30, 100y free 48.29, 100y fly 51.64), sophomores Isa Odgers (100y breast 1:00.76, 200y breast 2:09.46) and Laticia Transom (50y free 22.31, 100y Free 47.83, 200y free 1:43.27) and freshman Nicole Pavlopoulou (200y breast 2:10.86) and Maile Lawson (200y breast 2:12.85.)

OVERVIEW
Captains for this year's Trojans are seniors Thomas Reed and Mark Jurek and junior diver Henry Fusaro for the men as well as seniors Louise Hansson, Hanni Leach and diver Carly Souza for the women.
Hansson is a two-year captain and the defending NCAA champion in the 100-yard and 200-yard butterfly. Other All-Americans returning for the Trojans include Leach, redshirt seniors Kirsten Vose and Tatum Wade, junior Marta Ciesla and sophomore Laticia Transom.
Other key returners include junior Maggie Aroesty (2018 Pac-12 200-yard breaststroke champion), senior diver Naomi Gowlett (2019 Pac-12 platform runner-up) and NCAA vets like senior Catherine Sanchez and sophomore Jemma Schlicht.
Freshmen Nicole Pavlopoulou (Greece) and Aela Janvier (Canada) are among the women's team's top newcomers.
