No. 25 USC Notches First Pac-12 Victory in Four-Setter Over Arizona

The Women of Troy took down the Wildcats behind 17.5 points from senior outside hitter Khalia Lanier
LOS ANGELES – No. 25 USC women's volleyball (7-5, 1-1 Pac-12) defeated Arizona (10-4, 0-2) in four sets, 25-21, 14-25, 25-22, 25-22, at Galen Center on Saturday, Sept. 28, to record the Trojans' first Pac-12 victory of the season. The Women of Troy remain undefeated at home this year with a 4-0 mark.

- Sr. OH Khalia Lanier posted her first double-double of the season (35th career) with 16 kills (7e, 43att, .209) and 14 digs. Lanier also had two blocks (one solo) and three assists.
- Sr. MB Jasmine Gross logged eight kills (3e, 16att) on .312 hitting and led the Trojans with five blocks.
- So. Setter Raquel Lázaro dished out 39 assists to go with three blocks, four kills, and six digs.
- Fr. OPP Emilia Weske put up eight kills (1e, 16att) and hit .438 with two service aces.
- Sr. libero Jenna Adams picked up 16 digs and served two aces.
- For the Wildcats, Devyn Cross led with 15 kills and had three blocks (two solo). Paige Whipple logged 12 kills and had seven digs. Julia Patterson had 43 assists and put up 10 digs for the double-double. Whipple also had three blocks and two kills.
- The Trojans and Wildcats were tied up 27 times throughout the match including eight times in the first set alone. Arizona led briefly, but USC hit .406 with 17 kills and had a 77-percent sideout rate to close out a 25-21 win in the opening frame.
- Arizona came out firing in the second and held the Women of Troy to a .000 hitting rate en route to a 25-14 win to even the match at one set apiece.
- The teams were tied 10 more times and the lead changed hands six times in the third set, but the Trojans had the last score flip and went in front, 2-1, in the match on a 25-22 victory.
- USC posted the same score in the fourth as Lanier delivered the 11th kill of the frame to close out another 25-22 win. USC hit .276 (11-3-29) in the fourth and held the Wildcats to a .089 hitting rate.
- The Trojans remain home next weekend and will host Washington on Friday (Oct. 4) and Washington State on Sunday (Oct. 6) at Galen Center. Both matches will be shown live on the Pac-12 Networks.
- USC improved to 66-22 all-time in 88 meetings with Arizona and have won four straight over the Wildcats.
- The Women of Troy improved to 4-0 at home this season and are now 165-37 all-time at Galen Center.
