
No. 5 USC Opens Season With 3-0 Win at Hawai'i

HONOLULU, Hawai'i – The No. 5 USC women's soccer team opened the season with a dominant 3-0 win on the road at Hawai'i on Thursday.
USC got goals from three different players and Kaylie Collins saved a penalty shot late in the game to preserve the clean sheet.
Returning Pac-12 Freshman of the Year Penelope Hocking got the scoring started less than 10 minutes into the game and then fellow forward Tara McKeown would put the Trojans up by two before the half. Freshman Savianna Gomez got her first career goal with less than five minutes to go in the game.
Following the restart after the late goal, Hawai'i took the ball down and were awarded a penalty in the box, but Collins was there to deny the shot. She would make one more save before the final whistle, giving her three saves in the game.

9' – USC: Penelope Hocking (assisted by Tara McKeown, Natalie Jacobs) McKeown sent in a cross that was deflected by Jacobs straight to Hocking, who scored deep in the box.
35' – USC: Tara McKeown (no assist) – McKeown beat two defenders to get into the box and finish inside the far post.
85' – USC: Savianna Gomez (no assist) – Gomez grabbed a clearance attempt from Hawaii, took one touch, and then sent in a strike from 25 yards out.
