The Women of Troy are ranked in the AVCA Coaches Poll for the 513th time
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The USC women's volleyball team is ranked No. 14 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) preseason top 25 poll as announced on Tuesday, Aug. 13.
The Women of Troy received 664 points in the first poll of the fall and are one of six ranked Pac-12 schools.
USC appears in the poll for the 513th time, which ranks third all-time. Only Nebraska and Stanford (543 times each)—which have appeared in every single poll—have been ranked in more polls than the Trojans. USC has appeared 316 times among the top 10 of the poll (eighth all-time) and is one of just 19 teams ever to be ranked No. 1 (47 polls; sixth all-time).
Defending Pac-12 and NCAA champion Stanford received the first-place vote on 62 of 64 ballots and is ranked No. 1 to open the season. Among other Pac-12 teams in the preseason Top 25, No. 11 Oregon, No. 13 Washington, No. 22 Washington State, and No. 24 Arizona are ranked. Utah, UCLA, and Colorado are among other teams receiving votes on ballots. Outside of conference opponents, USC will face No. 4 Texas, No. 7 Kentucky, No. 18 Creighton, and No. 21 San Diego in non-conference matches this fall.
USC opens the 2019 season with a pair of matches in the Lonestar State where it faces Texas State (Aug. 30) in San Marcos and Texas (Sept. 1) in Austin. The Trojans will play their first home matches when they host the Trojan Invitational (Sept. 13-14) at Galen Center with Villanova, Yale, and Howard the visitors.
In its first season under head coach Brent Crouch (2018), USC finished with a 22-11 overall record and a second-place tie in the Pac-12 (13-7). The Trojans played one of the toughest schedules in the nation with 18 AVCA ranked opponents. USC made its 36th appearance in the NCAA tournament (28th consecutive), advanced to the second round as the 11th seed before falling in an upset to San Diego; and finished ranked No. 21 in the final coaches' poll. Junior outside hitter Brooke Botkin was named to the AVCA All-America second team and became the program's 42nd all-time All-American. Setter Raquel Lázaro was chosen as the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and received AVCA All-America honorable mention alongside senior outside hitter Khalia Lanier.
