Former MVPs themselves, Amanda Longan and Maud Megens also earn All-Tournament Team honors.
After nabbing back-to-back MPSF Tournament tiles for the first time, USC boasts the MVP once again. This year, sophomore Paige Hauschild stands tall with her selection as the 2019 MPSF Tournament MVP, joined by teammates Amanda Longan and Maud Megens on the All-Tournament Team. Megens was the MVP last year, and Longan scored the award in 2016.
This year's MVP, Paige Hauschild drummed up 10 goals across USC's three wins at the tourney. She piled on four goals in the championship game, including the golden goal in overtime to secure a 9-8 victory for USC over host Stanford. She also had a four-goal explosion in the quarterfinal vs. Indiana, and punched up two goals in USC's semifinal win over UCLA.Â
Senior goalie Amanda Longan now has her third career spot on an MPSF All-Tournament Team list, following her MVP status in 2016 and an all-tourney pick last year. At this year's event, Longan hauled in 29 saves, making 13 stops in the championship victory over Stanford and had 11 in the semifinals vs. UCLA. Those outings notched her 13th and 14th double-digit save outing of the season, as she is averaging 11.1 saves per game. Longan also blocked two 5-meter penalty shots during the championship game.
Junior Maud Megens — last year's tournament MVP — earned her place on this 2019 MPSF All-Tournament Team with a powerful all-around performance. She scored twice in the opener vs. Indiana and once in the semifinal win while also dishing out three assists and grabbing three steals at the event. Additionally, Megens made an incredible goal-saving effort to stop a 6-on-5 chance by Stanford in the fourth period of that eventual overtime win.
Hauschild, Longan, Megens and the Trojans now turn their focus to defense of another title as USC is looking to claim back-to-back NCAA Championships for the first time program history. The top seed, USC (26-1) heads back to Palo Alto next week for NCAA action running May 10-12 at Avery Aquatic Center.
