The No. 21-ranked USC lacrosse team opens the 2019 season at home against Hofstra on February 9
Meet Chelsea Kovinsky, a freshman attacker for USC lacrosse. The Women of Troy welcome six talented freshmen for the 2019 season. Get to know each of them a little better as the season approaches. The Trojans host Hofstra on Saturday, Feb. 9, at McAlister Field, with first draw set for noon PT.
How are you liking USC so far?
I love it. I love our team. They're really welcoming, and it's a great atmosphere. Even just the campus in general is a really fun place to be.
Do you have a favorite place on campus?
On campus, probably the Village, just because it's really convenient and everything you could ever need is at your fingertips.
How about a favorite place you've been to in LA?
Probably the Arts District. I'm really into art, so I like going there because it's really spread out and there are a lot of murals on the walls. It's all really nice to look at and admire.
Why did you decide to come to USC?
I've been obsessed with this school ever since, like, seventh grade. It's just been my dream school, and I've always wanted to live in LA. This was just the perfect place for me.
How has the transition been from Baltimore to the West Coast?
It's been a lot easier than I expected it to be, just because I've always liked the West Coast better. So it's kind of like I was just waiting to come here.
Have you thought about your goals for after graduation?
Yes, so I'm currently a business major, and I'm picking up a minor in music industry, so I definitely want to go into that. I could do anything in music and probably be satisfied. I'm also into fashion design.
What kind of music do you like to listen to?
Everyone always asks me that and it's so hard to answer, because my taste in music is really diverse. Like, I love Sam Smith, but then I also love Amy Winehouse, and I love the blues, and Stevie Wonder, John Mayer, Elton John… I don't have a specific type of music that I like, I just love all music.
What is the biggest difference between playing lacrosse in high school and playing in college?
Probably the level of intensity. In college, it's a lot more intense, and I feel like a lot more is expected out of me than in high school.
What are you most looking forward to this season?
This season, I'm most looking forward to traveling with the team, and bonding when we're away from campus. I'm really looking forward to traveling.
What is your proudest achievement from high school?
It was my freshman year in high school, when we were playing McDonogh in the championship game, and it was probably one of the most fun games I've ever played in. It was probably one of my best games that I've ever had. We ended up losing by one point, with like four seconds left, and my head coach almost passed out. It was one of the most intense games I've ever played and I will never forget it.
