January 30, 2019 | Women's Lacrosse, Features
The No. 21-ranked USC lacrosse team opens the 2019 season at home against Hofstra on February 9
Meet Katie Ramsay, a freshman midfielder for USC lacrosse. The Women of Troy welcome six talented freshmen for the 2019 season. Get to know each of them a little better as the season approaches. The Trojans host Hofstra on Saturday, Feb. 9, at McAlister Field, with first draw set for noon PT.
So, how are you liking USC so far?
I love it. Everyone's super welcoming and really fun, and the Trojan family is really real here. I really enjoy it so far.
What inspired your decision to come to USC?
Kind of the same thing as what I'm liking now. When I stepped on campus, and went to the camp here, everybody who I was playing with was super welcoming and it was just a new style of lacrosse that I had never played with. There was a lot of stick tricks going on, and people were just having fun playing lacrosse. That really inspired me to come here and experience that.
I saw that you're from Connecticut. How has the transition been from the East Coast to the West Coast?
It's actually been really nice. I do miss the seasons sometimes, but I can't complain about the weather here. It's awesome, there's so much to do. Me and my friends like going to the beach and just doing things in LA. So that's fun.
Where's your favorite place to go in LA?
I really like to eat in LA Live and in Santa Monica, and we also like to go to Santa Monica for the beach.
What's your favorite class that you've taken or are taking here?
Last semester, I took a class called Design Theory, which was really interesting. I'm interested in pursuing a minor in design because I did a lot of art in high school and the professor here was just really interesting and had a lot of things to say about design.
What is the biggest difference between playing in high school and playing in college?
I would say two things would be the strength of the people that you're playing against, and also the speed. Everybody plays a lot quicker, and you just have to be on your toes all the time, anticipating things, because everybody's just processing things a lot faster.
Do you have any game day rituals?
I always eat a grilled cheese before my game, and just listen to the same playlist that I always do.
What are you most looking forward to this season?
I'm excited to start playing some games, I know we've had some preseason games, but we've been doing a lot of practices and I'm excited to see how we can compete in the games and I also know that traveling will be a lot of fun with the team 'cause we're all super close and I'm really excited for that.
What is your proudest achievement from playing in high school?
Probably making the Under Armour All-American team. That was a really proud moment for me. At the beginning of my high school career, I didn't have all that much confidence in my lacrosse abilities, and as I progressed my high school coach really helped me out and pushed me to be the player I have become. So getting the Under Armour recognition was really amazing.
Do you have any main career goals for after graduation, outside of lacrosse?
I'm a business administration major, and I really want to do something within the sports industry, because sports have always been a huge part of my life. Whether that be product design for sports, or sports management on the business side, I think that'd be really cool.
