USC Women's Rowing Shows Promise For Season Ahead at Las Vegas Collegiate Invitational

HENDERSON, Nev. -- The No. 12 ranked USC women's rowing team began the 2019 season with the Las Vegas Collegiate Invitational, where they took on No. 2 Washington on Lake Las Vegas on Saturday (March 2). USC placed second to Washington in the Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Eight and third in the Varsity Four (Washington raced two four boats), but looked ready to continue to improve this season.

"We had a great day of racing at Lake Las Vegas," said head coach Josh Adam. "We want to thank the Lake Las Vegas Rowing Club and Jim Anderson for hosting. We learned a lot about how our team training program has been developing the speed of the team. We also got a sense of the parts of the race that we can start to work on as we head into spring break and regular season racing."
The races were moved to 7 a.m. to avoid poor weather conditions. In the V4+, the boat coxed by Olivia Lau and stroked by Stephanie Daboub crossed the finish line with a time of 8:02.54 behind Washington's first boat (7:38.37) and second boat (7:45.97).
In the 2V8+, the Huskies finished first with a time of 6:30.06, while the Trojan boat, coxed by Annika Christensen and stroked by Amanda Sutrick, recorded a time of 6:48.14.
In the V8+, the final race of the day, Washington placed first with a time of 6:25.24, and USC's top boat finished shortly behind clocking in at 6:31.50. The Varsity Eight was coxed by Maddy Kim and was stroked by Dorottya Bene.
The Women of Troy will now begin preparing for the Pac-12 Challenge, which will take place on March 30 and 31 on the waters of the San Francisco Bay in Redwood Shores, Calif.
