- Sr. OH Khalia Lanier re-wrote the USC and Pac-12 record books with a career-high 40-kill match. The output is the second-highest in a single match in school history; behind only Asia Kaczor's 45 kills (Nov. 16, 2007; vs. Washington); set during an era when sets 1-4 were played to 30 points. Lanier's 42.5 points is also the second-highest total in school history behind Kaczor's 47.5-point night in 2007. Lanier and Kaczor are the only two Trojans ever to register 40 kills in a single match. Her 40 kills also make her only the fifth player in Pac-12 history to reach the 40-kill mark; the first since Kaczor. She joins Kaczor (the Pac-12 record holder), Natalie Williams (43 in 1991) of UCLA, Bev Oden (41 in 1990) of Stanford, and Laurie Wetzel (41 in 1987) of Washington. Lanier's 40 kills had the incredible distinction of being accomplished in the 25-point set era. Lanier also put up a new career high 82 attacks (tied for sixth highest in USC history) and had two blocks and a service ace to her line.
- So. setter Raquel Lázaro recorded a new career high with 64 assists and recorded her league-high 15th double-double of the season with 12 digs (27th of her career). Lázaro also had five blocks and a kill on the night.
- Fr. OPP Emilia Weske tallied 12 kills (1e, 21att) and hit .524 to go with two blocks and a service ace.
- For the Utes, Dani Drews set a new school record with 33 kills (10e, 66att, .348). Kenzie Koerber (17), Zoe Weatherington (15) and Berkeley Oblad (14) each also recorded double-digit kills for Utah. Saige Ka'aha'aina-Torres had a double-double with 67 assists and 14 digs. Brianna Doehrmann led all players with 22 digs.
- Utah won the first set, 25-19, after hitting a scorching .533 in the frame with 18 kills (2e, 30att). The Trojans collected 14 kills with seven from Lanier and hit .333 in the set.
- The Utes led by as many as six points in the second set, but the Trojans broke the 12th and final tie to pull away for a 33-31 win. Lanier and Drews each had 11 kills in the set but the Trojans out-blocked the Utes, 6-0, to win the frame.
- USC led the third set by a five-point margin, 17-12, but the Utes kept on fighting. Lanier added 11 more kills to her night and helped the Women of Troy hit .389 to close out a 25-23 win in the set for a 2-1 lead in the match.
- The Trojans led by as many as five in the fourth, and had match point at 24-22, but Utah scored the final four points to force the fifth set with a 26-24 win. Drews collected eight of her kills in set four.
- Utah went up, 4-1, early in the fifth, but the Women of Troy collected themselves and pulled into a 12-all tie. USC took match point again at 14-13, but Utah turned the tables to have three chances to close the books. Drews scored her 33rd kill of the match to sew up an 18-16 win for the Utes who had 11 kills to USC's eight (six from Lanier).
- The Women of Troy close the weekend with a matchup against Colorado (11-12, 3-10 Pac-12) on Saturday night (Nov. 9) at Galen Center. The match will begin at 7 p.m. PT and be shown live on a Pac-12+ stream.
- USC fell to 18-6 all-time against Utah and was swept in the season series against the Utes for the first time. It is the Trojans' third straight loss to Utah; the longest streak by the Utes in the series' history.
- The Trojans fall to 167-40 (.807) all-time at Galen Center.
- USC goes to 2-6 in eight five-set matches this season. The eight five-setters ties the second most five-set matches played by the Women of Troy in a single season. USC fell to 138-89 all-time in five-set matches and to 55-31 at home. This season, five of USC's six Pac-12 losses are five-set results.
