After two days of stellar swims from Alexei Sancov, he came back today to post a 1:42.20 200 Y fly, shattering the Trojan school record by 0.15 (set in 2006) and taking first. Sancov, whose new 200 fly record was previously owned for the last 13 years by Hungarian Viktor Bodrogi, led three Trojans in the A final as senior Mark Jurek (1:46.10, B) and sophomore Jackson Odgers (1:48.00) went 5-6 on the final day of the Art Adamson Invite in College Station, Texas.
"Worlds this summer was the final straw that made me make some changes" said Sancov. "It took me over a year of fails to finally make some huge changes. New habits, new training program, better nutrition, losing weight. All these changes finally led to better results and finally I believe I found the right way of training." Sancov is the first nationally with his 200y free time (1:32.95) and third nationally with his 200y IM (1:43.92) and tonight's 200y fly (1:42.20).
Sophomore Laticia Transom took the women's 100y free with a season best 47.83. On the men's side, Nikola Miljenic (43.24), Max Saunders (43.90), Thomas Finello (44.13) and Jan Collazo Torres (44.52) all scored points for the Trojans and posted season PR's.
Isa Odgers (2:10.00) and Nicole Pavlopoulou (2:10.86) went 4-5 in the 200Y breast with Maile Lawson 8th (2:12.86), all B cuts. Senior Matt McDermott dropped a PR in men's 200y breast A final, taking 7th in 1:59.24, nearing a B cut.
Senior Catherine Sanchez was just off her PR in the 200y fly final, finishing 3rd in 1:55.67, 0.34 from her best, but good for a season-best B cut. Sophomore Makenna Turner was 7th (2:01.45).
To conclude the three-day invite, the Trojan Women won their fourth relay of the meet by crushing the 400y free relay as Laticia Transom, Jemma Schlicht, Catherine Sanchez and Tatum Wade clocked a 3:14.00 for an NCAA A cut. USC's men closed the meet with a second in the 400y free relay as Alexei Sancov, Max Saunders, Thomas Finello and Nikola Miljjenic touched in 2:54.42. Sancov leadoff of 43.74 was a B cut.
