EUGENE, Ore. – The No. 11 USC women's soccer team picked up a 1-0 road win on a chilly night in Oregon behind a clutch goal from Penelope Hocking and some big saves by Kaylie Collins.
The Trojans improve to 13-3-1 overall on the year and 6-3-0 in Pac-12 play, while Oregon falls to 5-7-5 overall and 1-6-2 in conference action.
USC struggled to get going offensively for much of the evening, but got things going late and started peppering the Oregon goal with shots. It was off a rebound from a Natalie Jacobs attempt that Hocking found the back of the net in the 78th minute. The Trojans had 17 shots on the night and put seven on target.
Collins made four saves in the game, the biggest of which came in the 85th minute when she leapt and tipped a dipping shot up and over the bar to preserve the shutout. It was the seventh shutout of the year for the Trojans.
GOALS
78' – USC: Penelope Hocking (assisted by Natalie Jacobs) – Jacobs took a shot from deep in the box that Oregon keeper Katelyn Carter dove to save, but the rebound fell to Hocking, who turned and chipped it into the back of the net.
UP NEXT
The Trojans stay on the road to face Oregon State on Sunday at 1 p.m. USC then returns to Los Angeles to end the regular season at No. 13 UCLA next week Friday.
