No. 5 USC Wins 2-1 at Arizona State on Wild Finish

TEMPE, Ariz. – Kaylin Martin scored with 35 seconds to play and goalkeeper Anna Smith saved a penalty shot with 21 seconds left on the clock to seal a wild 2-1 win for the No. 5 USC women's soccer team on the road at Arizona State on Thursday night.
Martin's first career goal pushed USC to 8-1-1 overall on the year and 1-1 in Pac-12 play, while the Sun Devils fall to 6-3-2 overall and 0-1-1 in conference action.
The Trojans got an own goal from ASU in the first half to grab the early lead, but a long distance shot from the Sun Devils' Marleen Schimmer evened things up midway through the second period.
Natalie Jacobs would send a corner into the box with time winding down, that Martin got her head on to score the game-winner at the 89:25 mark. On the ensuing kickoff, ASU drove immediately into the USC penalty area and drew a foul, setting up what looked to be a game-tying PK attempt for the home team. Smith was there, however, diving to her right to stop the shot and seal the win for the Trojans.
GOALS
7' – USC: ASU Own Goal (no assist) – Jaelyn Eisenhart sent a corner kick into the box that hit off an ASU defender and in.
62' – ASU: Marleen Schimmer (assisted by Kylie Minifield) – After a Trojan giveaway in the own defensive third, Schimmer got the ball just outside the penalty area and hit a shot off the crossbar and over the goal line.
90' – USC: Kaylin Martin (assisted by Natalie Jacobs) – Jacobs sent a perfect corner into the box and Martin jumped into the middle of the scrum and got a head on the ball to send it into the back of the net.

The Trojans continue their desert road trip with a matchup at Arizona on Sunday at noon. USC then returns home next week for games against Utah (Thursday) and Colorado (Sunday).
