The Women of Troy completed their non-conference schedule with an 8-3 mark
SAN DIEGO – The No. 16 USC women's volleyball team (8-3) defeated No. 23 San Diego (2-5) in three sets (25-22, 25-15, 25-20) in the SDSU/USD Challenge at Jenny Craig Pavilion on Friday, Sept. 14, to conclude the non-conference portion of its schedule.

- Jr. OH Khalia Lanier led the Trojans with 15 kills (4e, 38att, .289) and had five digs, two blocks and a service ace.
- So. OH Brooke Botkin recorded eight kills (3e, 24att, .208) to go with seven digs and three blocks.
- Jr. MB Jasmine Gross had five kills (1e, 14att, .286) to go with five blocks and a service ace.
- Fr. setter Raquel Lázaro recorded 31 assists with seven digs, three blocks, and a service ace.
- Sr. MB Madison Murtagh was errorless with five kills (9att) for a season-high .556 hitting rate and led the team with a season-high six blocks.
- On defense, Sr. libero Victoria Garrick led all players with 19 digs and had three assists and a service ace.
- For the Toreros, Katie Lukes led the way with 10 kills (5e, 31att, .161). Kelli Barry had 12 digs and Laura Madill had 20 assists.
- The first set was tied for an 11th time at 20-all, but USC capitalized on Torero errors and completed a 25-22 win to take the opening frame. The Trojans hit .235 and got four of their kills from Gross.
- San Diego earned a kill to keep the score close at 12-10 in the second set, but the Trojans stepped on the gas to finish in a flurry for a 25-15 win. Botkin scored four of her kills (0e, 5att) in the second frame and USC earned five blocks in the win.
- It was the Lanier show in the third set. The Trojans trailed by two points at several moments in the third, but Lanier kept on churning to record nine kills including the final three USC terminations for a 25-20 win and the sweep.
- USC opens Pac-12 play on Wednesday, Sept. 19, against crosstown rival UCLA. The Trojans and Bruins meet at Galen Center for an 8 p.m. PT match that will be carried live on ESPNU.
- USC improved to 12-1 all-time against San Diego and won its third straight over the Toreros. It was the first time in two tries that the Trojans were able to defeat USD at Jenny Craig Pavilion.
- The Women of Troy improved to 15-6 all-time in matches played in the city of San Diego.
- The Trojans complete the non-conference schedule with an 8-3 record.
- USD was the sixth ranked non-conference foe the Trojans have faced this season. The win is USC's fourth.
- The Trojans' 11 blocks were the team's second-highest single-match total this season. USC had 12.0 against Marquette (5S).
