Brittany Abercrombie Named to USA Pan Am Cup Preliminary Roster

USC Associate Head Coach JJ Van Niel will serve as an assistant coach for Team USA at the Pan American Cup
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USC women's volleyball All-American opposite hitter Brittany Abercrombie (Carlsbad, Calif.) was named to the 25-player preliminary U.S. Women's National Team roster on Monday, June 18.
The U.S. National Team will hold is first Red-Blue instrasquad scrimmage of the year on Friday (June 22) in Irvine, Calif. The match, scheduled for a 7 p.m. PT start, will be played at Irvine Valley College and be used as part of the evaluation process in selecting Team USA's 14-player roster, which will compete at the 2018 Pan American Cup in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, July 8-14. Tickets for Friday's scrimmage are $5 per person and will be available at the door on IVC's campus beginning at 6 p.m.
First-year USC associate head coach JJ Van Niel will serve as an assistant coach for Team USA during the evaluation process and will also be on staff when the team heads to Dominican Republic in July. Former volunteer assistant coach John Xie is the national team's manager for the Pan Am Games.
The Red-Blue scrimmage will utilize the 25-player preliminary roster with players switching colors throughout the match. The roster currently has three setters, four liberos, five opposite hitters, six outside hitters, and seven middle blockers. USAV has noted that not all players are expected to dress for the initial scrimmage.

This fall is the inaugural season for first-year USC head coach Brent Crouch, who was hired to lead the program in January. The Trojans return the services of 2017 leading scorer Khalia Lanier (4.86 pps). Now a junior, Lanier was named a first-team AVCA All-American last year. USC's pin-attack will also feature sophomore Brooke Botkin, who became a top contributor to close her freshman campaign (2.07 kps). Senior libero Victoria Garrick returns after she became the program's 17th player to collect over 1,000 career digs last season. The Trojans' starting setters senior Reni Meyer-Whalley and junior Cindy Marina also return to the lineup along with junior defensive specialist Jenna Adams, who appeared in all but one match in 2017.
Last season, the Women of Troy (25-10) received the 10th seed and appeared in the program's 27th consecutive NCAA championship tournament (35th all-time). The Trojans defeated Central Arkansas in the first round and upended No. 9-ranked San Diego in the second round to advance to the Gainesville Regional Championship hosted by No. 2-seed Florida. There, USC took down seventh-seeded Minnesota in a three-set sweep to advance to the team's sixth NCAA regional title match in eight years. The Women of Troy finished in second place in the Pac-12 (14-6) after being selected to finish sixth in the coaches' preseason poll.
