No. 3 Trojans Shuck Huskers For 5-0 Sweep

The Women of Troy collected their 10th dual victory of the season in a win over Nebraska
HONOLULU – The No. 3-ranked USC beach volleyball team (10-5) downed Nebraska (3-5) in a 5-0 sweep to conclude the first day of the Outrigger Resorts Hawai'i Invitational on Queen's Beach on Saturday, March 17.

The win over the Huskers was USC's 10th of the season and the fourth 5-0 sweep for the team. The Trojans posted the first point of the dual on a win at court four. There, junior Katrina Kernochan and senior Alexandra Poletto defeated Hayley Densberger and Chesney McLellan, 21-6, 21-11.

USC picked up a second point as sophomore Joy Dennis and freshman Haley Hallgren took down Sami Slaughter and Jazz Sweet, 21-12, 21-5, at the No. 3 position. At the top court, junior Abril Bustamante and freshman Tina Graudina delivered the clinching point with a 21-17, 21-15 win over Annika Albrecht and Kenzie Maloney.

Seniors Jenna Belton and Jo Kremer put up the fourth point for the Women of Troy with a 21-14, 21-10 win over Allie Havers and Jasmine Schmidt at court five. In the only three-setter of the dual, senior Terese Cannon and freshman Sammy Slater took down Kelly Hunter and Lauren Stivrins, 16-21, 22-20, and 15-11.

The Women of Troy conclude the Hawai'i Invitational with two early matches on Sunday (March 18) on Queen's Beach. The Trojans will rematch with the Cornhuskers at 8:30 a.m. HT (11:30 a.m. PT) and then complete the tourney with a second meeting against No. 5 Hawai'i at 9:45 a.m. HT (12:45 p.m. PT). USC returns to Southern California next week to host the inaugural Pac-12 South Invitational at Ocean Park Beach in Santa Monica, Calif., on Saturday and Sunday (March 24-25).
