USC Hosts UC Davis Sunday In Final Nonconference Game

Game part of DH as women's team takes on UCLA
The USC Trojans (6-6) will host the UC Davis Aggies (3-9) at the Galen Center on Dec. 30 at 6 p.m. The game will be USC's final nonconference game before Pac-12 Conference play begins on Jan. 3 when USC will host California at 7 p.m. The game will be part of a doubleheader with the USC women's team which hosts UCLA in its Pac-12 opener at 2 p.m.
BREAKING DOWN UC DAVIS - UC Davis (3-9) is coming off a 77-59 loss at Loyola Marymount on Dec. 28. UC Davis is 0-6 on the road this season. Senior guard TJ Shorts II leads UC Davis in scoring average at 14.3 points per game. UC Davis went 22-11 last season and returned three starters from that team. This is the first meeting between the two schools.
USC ROLLS TO WIN OVER SOUTHERN UTAH - USC rolled to a 91-49 win against Southern Utah at the Galen Center on Dec. 21 to earn Andy Enfield his 100th career win as the Trojans' head coach. The 42-point win was USC's largest since winning the 2017-18 opener 84-42 over CS Fullerton. USC snapped a four-game losing streak by holding SUU to a season-low 49 points and to 34.0 percent shooting. USC was led by Bennie Boatwright who scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Nick Rakocevic was USC's high scorer with 21 points and all 10 Trojans who played scored at least 2 points.  USC had a season-best 24 assists, its most since recording 28 vs. UCSB on Dec. 17, 2017. McKay Anderson who began his career at SUU and became eligible for the first time after sitting out the first semester, scored his first two points as a Trojan. USC outscored SUU 52-22 on points in the paint and 33-11 on points off turnovers, as it registered a season-high 11 steals. USC made 53.7 percent of its shots and 41.2 from three-point range.
CALIFORNIA ON DECK - USC's next game will be vs. California at the Galen Center on Jan. 3 at 6 p.m. The Golden Bears (5-6) will host Seattle on Dec. 29 before traveling to Los Angeles. Paris Austin leads five Bears averaging double figures in points with a 13.6 average.USC won both games against California last season, but trails the all-time series 136-124 (1 win vacated due to NCAA penalty, original record 136-125).
ENFIELD WINS 100TH - Andy Enfield earned his 100th career win as the USC head coach with the 91-49 victory over Southern Utah on Dec. 21. He has a 100-82 record in his six seasons at the helm of the USC program. He has led the Trojans into the postseason each of the last three seasons, combining to win 71 games, the most in a three-year stretch in school history. He has a 141-110 overall record in eight seasons as a head coach.
DEROZAN BREAKS USC NBA SCORING RECORD - When DeMar DeRozan (USC, 2009) scored 30 points in the San Antonio Spurs' 111-103 win vs. Denver on Dec. 26, he became USC's all-time leading scorer in the NBA with 14,112 career points. He passed Gus Williams who is now second with 14,093 career points and the rest of the impressive top five is Paul Westphall (3rd, 12,809), Bill Sharman (4th, 12,665) and Cliff Robinson (5th, 10,823). DeRozan scored 485 points (13.9 per game) in his one season (2008-09) at USC, helping lead the team to a 22-13 record. That team defeated ASU and James Harden 66-63 to win the Pac-12 Tournament title with DeRozan earning MVP, and then reached the NCAA Tournament second round.
TROJANS TAKE THE LEAD - USC led for 36:31 of the 40 minutes in the win against Southern Utah on Dec. 21. In the four-game losing streak prior to that win, USC led for a total of 16:52 minutes out of a total of 170 minutes. Of that, 14:20 was in the first loss vs. Nevada on Dec. 1. USC never led vs. TCU on Dec. 7, led for 1:24 vs. Oklahoma on Dec. 15 and for 2:08 in the double-overtime loss at Santa Clara on Dec. 18.
SHARING IS CARING - USC has averaged 20.5 assists in its wins and 11.2 in its losses.
THE MAGIC MARKER - With the 91-49 win over Southern Utah on Dec. 21, USC has now won 35 consecutive games in which it allows 70 points or less.
RAKOCEVIC HAS BEEN A FORCE - Junior forward Nick Rakocevic scored 17 points and grabbed 15 rebounds vs. Oklahoma on Dec. 15 for his sixth double-double of the season. He is tied for ninth in the country in double-doubles and his 10.7 rebounds per game this season ranks eighth nationally and tops in the Pac-12. Rakocevic is also averaging a double-double by averaging a team-best 15.2 points per game. He began the season with three consecutive double-doubles before getting 9 points and 9 rebounds vs. Texas Tech on Nov. 19, snapping a streak of five consecutive double-doubles dating back to last season. He became the first USC player to record three double-doubles to start a season since Sam Clancy did it to start the 2001-02 season. His five consecutive double-doubles were the most by a USC player since Nikola Vucevic had eight-straight during the 2011 season.
CHALLENGING COMPETITION - The six teams USC has lost to this season (Vanderbilt, Texas Tech, Nevada, TCU, Oklahoma & Santa Clara) have a combined 59-12 record. USC has also played four teams with one loss or less, including current No. 6 Nevada, No. 11 Texas Tech and No. 25 Oklahoma. There are only 22 teams remaining with one loss or less this season.
