No. 15 USC Completes Season Sweep of UCLA with 3-2 Victory

Sophomore outside hitter Brooke Botkin delivered her 12th double-double of the season in the win
 LOS ANGELES – The 15th-ranked USC women's volleyball team (21-10, 13-7 Pac-12) earned a hard-fought five-set win (25-23, 25-22, 22-25, 16-25, 15-9) over crosstown rival UCLA (13-14, 8-12) at Pauley Pavilion on Friday, Nov. 23, to conclude the regular season. The win completes the Trojans' season sweep of the Bruins for the first time since 2013.Â

- So. OH Brooke Botkin posted her 12th double-double of the season (13th career) with 21 kills and a career-high 25 digs. Botkin also matched her career mark with three service aces.
- Jr. OH Khalia Lanier added 18 kills and had eight digs and a service ace. Jr. OPP Emily Baptista had 16 kills (5e, 31att, .355).
- Fr. setter Raquel Lázaro put up 50 assists and had eight digs, three blocks, and two kills.
- Jr. DS Raegan LeGrand delivered a career-high four service aces. The Trojans had nine in the match.
- Sr. libero Victoria Garrick had 23 digs and seven assists.
- For the Bruins, Mac May had 16 kills. Madeleine Gates posted 13 kills with four blocks and Emily Ryan had 10 kills and six blocks. Zana Muno posted 35 digs in her final match for UCLA.
- The Trojans trailed by six, 21-15, in the first set, but used a stretch run of five kills and two blocks to complete a 10-2 barrage that ended in a 25-23 victory for USC. Baptista, Botkin, and Lanier each score five kills apiece as the Trojans hit .389.
- It was nearly déjà vu in the second frame as the Bruins created a four-point lead at 19-15. This time, LeGrand came in to serve a pair of aces and sparked another USC run that ended in a 25-22 win for the Women of Troy.
- UCLA wouldn't go quietly and responded to a 20-18 deficit to win the third set, 25-22, with five blocks in the set. The Bruins held USC to a .025 hitting rate in the fourth and raced away for a 25-16 win to force set five.
- In the fifth, the Trojans got three kills apiece from Baptista and Lanier; two more from Botkin and aces from Botkin and LeGrand. USC hit .320 to edge UCLA's .300 outing and completed the win on a kill from Lanier.
- USC awaits selection into the 2018 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Tournament and seeks its 36th appearance in the tourney (28th consecutive). The NCAA selection committee will announce the 64-team field on Sunday (Nov. 25) at 5:30 p.m. PT in a special show on ESPNU.
- USC improved to 59-53 all-time against UCLA and swept the season series over the Bruins for the first time since 2013.
- With a 13-7 Pac-12 record, the Women of Troy will finish no worse than in a tie for second place in the final league standings.
