No. 15 USC Falls to Upstart Utes in Home Regular-Season Finale

The Women of Troy were swept by Utah at Galen Center
LOS ANGELES – The 15th-ranked USC women's volleyball team (20-10, 12-7 Pac-12) dropped a three-set sweep (25-19, 25-21, 25-18) to Utah (17-13, 9-10) at Galen Center on Wednesday, Nov. 21.

- So. OH Brooke Botkin led the Trojans with 13 kills and had four digs.
- In her first action since early November, Jr. OH Khalia Lanier posted 12 kills and had five digs.
- Fr. setter Raquel Lázaro had 30 assists and 10 digs for her 12th double-double and added two kills and two blocks.
- For the Utes, Dani Drews led the way with 22 kills and a .429 hitting percentage (4e, 42att) to go with five digs and two blocks. Bailey Choy dished out 29 assists and helped the Utes hit .273 in the match. Choy added 11 digs for a double-double and served six of Utah's nine aces.
- Utah was relentless to open the match and took advantage of every USC error to come up with a 25-19 win. The Utes hit .257 and got six kills from Drews in the opening frame. Utah also served four aces in the first set.
- Drews was just as effective in set two as she poured in eight more kills. Botkin had six and got the Trojans within a point at 18-17, but Utah used a big run down the stretch to finish off a 25-21 win on Choy's fourth ace of the match.
- Utah never trailed and was rarely threatened in the third set. Drews picked up another eight kills and Choy another two aces as the Utes completed a 25-18 win with a .281 hitting rate to close out the Women of Troy.
- USC closes the regular season at crosstown rival UCLA (13-13, 8-11 Pac-12) on Friday (Nov. 21) at 5 p.m. PT at Pauley Pavilion. That match will be shown live on Pac-12 Los Angeles.
- USC fell to 18-4 all-time against Utah and had a short two-match streak over the Utes snapped. It was Utah's second all-time victory at Galen Center. The Utes also won in the arena in 2016.
- All-American OH Khalia Lanier returned to the lineup after missing the last four matches due to concussion protocols.
- The Women of Troy fell to 160-35 all-time at Galen Center.
- USC lost consecutive matches for only the third time this season.
- USC fell behind, 2-0, in a match for the eighth time this season and dropped to 1-7 in those situations.
- The Trojans lost to an unranked opponent for only the third time this season.
- USC honored the careers of seniors Victoria Garrick, Reni Meyer-Whalley, Madison Murtagh, and Brittany Welsh in pre-match ceremonies.
