No. 15 Trojans Down No. 16 Ducks in 3-0 Sweep

The Women of Troy exacted revenge for a 3-0 sweep at the hands of Oregon earlier in the season and defeated the Ducks on the road
EUGENE, Ore. – The 15th-ranked USC women's volleyball team (17-7, 9-4 Pac-12) earned a hard-fought 3-0 sweep (30-28, 25-23, 25-17) of No. 16 Oregon (15-8, 8-5) at Matthew Knight Arena on Friday, Nov. 2, to exact revenge on the Ducks for a sweep suffered at Galen Center on Oct. 7.

KEY PLAYERS
- So. OH Brooke Botkin led all scorers with 22.0 points and finished with 19 kills (4e, 4att) and a .333 hitting percentage. She also had a solo block, two service aces, and seven digs.
- Jr. OH Khalia Lanier delivered 15 kills (6e, 46att, .196) to go with 13 digs for her ninth double-double of the season (34th of her career). Lanier also tallied a block and a pair of service aces. Her two aces give her 104 in her career and moved her into a tie for 10th all-time at USC with Keao Burdine (2001-04).
- Jr. OPP Emily Baptista added 10 kills (3e, 19att, .368) and Jr. MB Jasmine Gross had seven (2e, 13att, .385) with three blocks.
- Fr. setter Raquel Lázaro put up 43 assists to go with seven digs, four blocks, and a service ace.
- Sr. libero Victoria Garrick posted 10 digs with an ace and Sr. defender Reni Meyer-Whalley had eight digs and two aces. Garrick's second dig moved her into seventh all-time at USC in career digs. She now has 1,480 to go ahead of Kelly Kuebler (1,471 digs; 1992-95) and needs six more to move in front of Alli Hillgren (1,485 digs; 2006-09) for sixth all-time.
- For the Ducks, Lindsey Vander Weide led the way with 13 kills (2e, 40att, .275) and Ronika Stone turned in a .444 hitting night with 11 kills (3e, 18att). Lauren Page led all players with six blocks while August Raskie had 36 assists and seven digs.
- The Trojans trailed by as many as six points in the first set, but battled back to earn a tie at 24-all before going ahead for their first set point at 25-24. USC had set point four times before Lanier put a kill through the Oregon block to end a 30-28 victory for the Women of Troy. USC earned 22 kills in the first frame and hit .314 (6e, 51att).
- Oregon built another sizeable lead in the second set, but USC erased a four-point deficit with a .342 hitting rate (18k, 5e, 38att) to come away with a 25-23 win for a 2-0 lead in the match.
- USC stepped on the gas in the third frame and turned a 9-6 lead into a 17-10 gash in a hurry. The Trojans pushed for a 20-11 advantage and held off the Ducks to finish off a 25-17 win for the sweep. USC hit .231 with 13 kills in the third but managed to hold the Ducks to a .105 outing (11k, 7e, 38att) for the win.
- USC remains in the Beaver State to take on Oregon State (11-14, 1-12) at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis, Ore., on Sunday (Nov. 4) at noon PT. The Trojans have beaten the Beavers in six straight meetings. The match will be shown live on Pac-12 Networks.
- USC improved to 54-13 all-time against Oregon and beat the Ducks in Eugene for the fourth straight time.
- The Trojans improved to 52-11 all-time in the state of Oregon and have won six straight matches there since 2015.
- The Women of Troy earned the program's 1,049th all-time victory and are one away from reaching another 50-win milestone.
- USC improved to 9-6 in 15 matches against ranked opponents this season.
