No. 19 Trojans Swept by Buffaloes

The Women of Troy fell for the first time in 15 meetings with Colorado
BOULDER, Colo. – The 19th-ranked USC women's volleyball team (14-6, 6-3 Pac-12) dropped a 3-0 decision (25-23, 25-14, 25-21) to Colorado (15-5, 5-4) at the Coors Events Center on Friday, Oct. 20. It was the first time the Women of Troy lost to the Buffaloes in 15 meetings and marked the first time USC has lost back-to-back matches this season.

Senior opposite hitter Brittany Abercrombie led the Trojans' attack with 12 kills. Senior opposite hitter Niki Withers added six kills and senior middle blocker Jordan Dunn had four kills.

Colorado out-blocked USC, 12-6, and held the Women of Troy to an abysmal negative .031 hitting rate in the second set to earn their first-ever victory over the Trojans. Frankie Shebby led the Buffaloes with 12 kills while Brynna DeLuzio had 37 assists. No player, on either team, broke the double-digit digs mark.

Despite the sweep, the Trojans battled the Buffs in each frame through a match that had 24 ties and 11 lead changes. USC did not have the services of star sophomore outside hitter Khalia Lanier, who was held out because of an undisclosed illness/injury.

Up next, the Women of Troy head to Salt Lake City to face 12th-ranked Utah (17-3, 8-1 Pac-12) at the Jon M. Huntsman Center on Sunday (Oct. 22) at noon PT (1 p.m. MT). The USC-Utah matchup will be shown live on Pac-12 Los Angeles and Pac-12 Mountain.

MATCH NOTES
- USC fell to 14-1 in all-time meetings with Colorado and had its 14-match winning streak against CU snapped. Prior to the loss, the Trojans were the only team that the Buffaloes had not beaten from the Pac-12 conference.
- The 3-0 sweep is the third time for the Trojans this season. USC's other three losses were came in four sets.
- The loss marks the first time this season that USC has lost back-to-back contests.
