USC Adds Destinie Gibbs To Roster for 2012-13

USC's incoming class of talent just got deeper for the season to come with the addition of Destinie Gibbs to the Trojan lineup for 2012-13, USC head coach Michael Cooper has announced. With her recently inked commitment, the 5-11 guard comes to Troy from Powder Springs, Ga., to round out a powerful freshman class of Trojans.
"We definitely got a four-star player in Destinie," Cooper said of Gibbs. "She gives us another guard to really shore up our backcourt. She's a young lady who possesses quality on the basketball court and great qualities in the classroom, which is something we're looking for in our student-athletes."
Gibbs, who averaged 7.7 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.3 steals per game in her senior season at McEachern High in Powder Springs, Ga., joins signees Jordan Adams and Brianna Barrett as the Trojans' talented incoming class of freshmen. She's the No. 24 ranked guard in the nation according to ESPN Hoopgurlz after helping lead her McEachern team through an undefeated 2011-12 season.
"Adding Gibbs to our incoming class really boosted us up there," Cooper said. "She definitely pushes our class of freshmen up to a top-10 class. She adds another dimension for us on the court. After losing the perimeter players we have, we needed to revamp, and Gibbs will give defensive intensity in a guard who can defend and rebound. Her midrange game we haven't had for a few years and now we have inside, 3-point and midrange threats. She's spectacular and athletic, and I'm loving her because of her defense."
