USC's Pam McGee has been announced as a member of the 14th group of inductees to the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame. In a presentation that took place at the WNBA All-Star Game on July 23, McGee was recognized as one of six members of the Class of 2012, joining Nancy Fahey (coach), Nikki McCray (player), Inge Nissen (player), Robin Roberts (contributor) and Dawn Staley (player). The last Trojan to be inducted was Cynthia Cooper-Dyke, who was a member of the 2009 class. McGee now makes it a group of five Women of Troy to find a home in the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, joining fellow players Cooper-Dyke and Cheryl Miller (1999) and coaches Marianne Stanley (2002) and Linda Sharp (2001).
An All-American, McGee was a member of USC's back-to-back NCAA Championship teams in 1983 and 1984. A three-time All-NCAA First Team honoree, she was a finalist for the 1983 Wade Trophy and for the 1984 Naismith Award. She still stands tall as USC's No. 6 all-time career scorer with 2,214 career points, and is second all-time in rebounding with 1,255. She went on to become an Olympic gold medalist with Team USA in 1984 and played in the WNBA with the LA Sparks and Sacramento Monarchs.
With the addition of the Class of 2012, the list of individuals who have been recognized as Women's Basketball Hall of Fame inductees will increase to 127.
The Women's Basketball Hall of Fame's Board of Directors serves as the selection committee in determining which individuals will be inducted each year. Voting is based on various factors, which may include moral character, integrity, sportsmanship, record of performance, ability, national or international recognition, and contributions to the game of women's basketball.
In order to be considered for selection for induction, an individual must meet the following prerequisites:
Player: Must be retired from the highest level of play for at least five years
Coach: Must have coached the women's game at least 20 years
Referee: Must have officiated the women's game at least 10 years
Contributor: Must have significantly impacted the game of women's basketball
