
Hawaii Upsets No. 1 USC Men's Volleyball

No. 12-ranked Hawaii, behind Joshua Walker's 24 kills, upset top-ranked USC, 30-21, 24-30, 30-28, 30-23, on Saturday (Jan. 9) on the final day of the Outrigger Hotels Invitational in Honolulu, Hi.
Both teams ended up with 2-1 records in the season-opening tourney.
The Warriors outhit the Trojans, .345 to .296.
USC was led by Murphy Troy, who had 15 kills and 14 digs, and Hawaii-native Tri Bourne, who posted 14 kills while hitting .440 and had 9 digs. Tony Ciarelli added 12 kills, Austin Zahn had 11 kills (hitting .471) and Hunter Current had 8 kills (hitting .533).
Walker hit at a .447 clip for the Warriors. Teammate Jonas Umlauft added 14 kills and 8 digs, while Gus Tuaniga had 11 kills (hitting .421) and 7 digs.
USC now opens Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play on Wednesday (Jan. 13) at UCLA at 7 p.m.
