2011: He started for his third season at outside hitter as a junior in 2011 and proved to be one of the nation[apos]s most dangerous players ... Overall in 2011 while appearing in (and starting) 26 matches, he was second on USC in kills (350) and aces (36), tied for third in blocks (64) and was fourth in digs (142) while hitting .317 ... He was in double kill figures 21 times (including 4 times with 20-plus kills), hit .500-plus 4 times, had 5-plus digs 17 times (including 3 times with 10-plus digs) and had 5-plus blocks 4 times ... He was tied for 14th nationally in aces (0.37, sixth in MPSF), was 20th in hitting percentage (.317) and was tied for 24th in kills (3.66), plus he was 10th in the MPSF in points (4.35) ... He earned 2007 All-CIF Division I second team, Los Angeles Times All-Star second team, Orange County Register All-Orange County third team and All-Seaview League Co-MVP honors as a junior ...
PERSONAL: He started on the U.S. Men[apos]s National Team that placed fifth at the 2011 Pan American Games in Mexico ... He and current Trojan Jeff Carlson tied for fifth at the 2011 World University Games beach competition in China ... He and Carlson were fifth at the 2011 USA Volleyball international development qualifier beach tourney in Playa Del Rey (Calif.) and then were 13th at the National Volleyball League beach tourney in Malibu ... He won the 'Best of the Beach' title at the 2011 CBS Sports Alt Games Collegiate Beach Championships in San Diego...He tied for fifth with partner Evan Barry at the 2010 FIVB Junior World Beach Volleyball Championships ... In the summer of 2010, he and current Trojan Maddison McKibbin tied for 13th at the World University Beach Volleyball Championships, tied for 33rd at the AVP Huntington Beach Open and placed second at the AVP Young Guns tourney in Long Beach (N.Y.) ... He and Carlson participated in the 2010 AVP Hermosa Beach Open ... He was on the 2009 U.S Men[apos]s Junior National Team that placed eighth at the FIVB World Championship ... His parents were standout players and then coached at Tony[apos]s high school: father, Rocky, played at Long Beach State (1977-79) before becoming an assistant coach there (he also played some pro beach volleyball in the 1980s and competed in numerous indoor USVBA Opens) and was a volunteer assistant coach at USC (2009-10), while his mother, Cammy (Chalmers), played at UCLA (1979-82) and then won 14 pro beach tournaments in the early 1990s (mainly with Holly McPeak) ... His cousin, Allison Ciarelli, was an All-State volleyball player at Golden West Junior College and then played at San Francisco State, another cousin, Maryn Ciarelli, was a competitive weightlifter who competed at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials, another cousin, Katelyn Ciarelli, was a 2-time (2006-08) Big West discus throw champion at Long Beach State and is now an assistant track coach at UC Irvine, and another cousin, Nick Ziegler, was a defensive end at Colorado (1995-98)... His aunt, Stephanie Ciarelli, coached the U.S. Junior National Weightlifting program, while his uncle, also named Tony Ciarelli, is a long-time high school discus and assistant football coach ... He is a history major at USC with a B average (3.04 GPA) ... He made 2010 and 2011 MPSF All-Academic ... Birthdate is April 13, 1990.
