The 2006-07 senior class of Women of Troy has been recognized as one of the strongest all-around groups in USC women's basketball history. The six graduating members of the 2006-07 squad have earned both athletic and academic accolades throughout their careers, and recently capped their USC academic careers with honors from the USC Athletic Department.
At the 2006-07 Marks Scholar Luncheon, USC seniors Jamie Hagiya and Shay Murphy each earned prestigious awards for their contributions as members of the Trojan Family. Hagiya was presented with the Gimble Award, and Murphy was awarded the Trojaneer Diamond Medal. The Gimble Award is bestowed upon the student-athlete who has inspired the greatest sense of teamwork and unity. As a starting point guard, Hagiya embodied the selflessness and skill of a true team player. One of USC's all-time leaders in assists -- ranked No. 4 in Trojan history -- Hagiya has helped bring out the best in her teammates while also providing a crucial scoring ability.
As the recipient of the Trojaneer Diamond Medal, Murphy has been recognized as the student-athlete who has brought the most fame and distinction to the university in the past year. Murphy's work ethic and dedication skyrocketed during her USC basketball career. A runner-up for the Pac-10 Player of the Year award and a finalist for numerous prestigious national honors as a senior, Murphy has gone on to join the professional ranks. Widely acknowledged and respected for her outgoing and positive personality as well as her outstanding skill as a player, Murphy is one of those individuals who appeals to coaches, players, fans and media in all that she does.
Hagiya, along with fellow seniors Allison Jaskowiak, Chloe Kerr and Kristen Travers and junior Simone Jelks were also honored as Marks Scholars for their academic success in the 2006-07 year.
