Women of Troy Ease By UCI

IRVINE, Calif. -- In a nonconference matchup, No. 1 USC women's volleyball (12-0, 6-0 Pac-10) swept UC Irvine 15-10, 15-5, 15-4. In front of 482 at UCI's Crawford Hall, the Women of Troy earned their 12th-consecutive 3-0 win of the season (36 straight games).
The Anteaters hit .202 on the night - only the second USC opponent to hit above the .200 mark this season (Washington State hit .257 on Sept. 14). With a .398 performance of their own, the Trojans were led by freshman Katie Olsovsky who added 16 kills and a .591 hitting percentage. Equally as impressive was freshman Kelli Lantz who made her first career start and pounded six kills off of nine attacks (.556). Lantz took the place of All-American candidate Jennifer Pahl who rested a sore shoulder.
In a local homecoming, Newport Harbor High graduate April Ross had a team-high 12 digs and nine kills in the win. Larissa Carter totaled 11 kills for UCI, while Ross' Newport Harbor teammate Brenda Waterman led all players with 15 digs.
USC will return to Pac-10 action on Friday, Oct. 6, against cross-town rival UCLA. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at North Gym.
