Women's Basketball Falls to Washington State

LOS ANGELES - The USC women's basketball was defeated by Washington State, 65-58, at the Los Angeles Sports Arena on Thursday night (1/28).
USC fell to 6-11 overall, 2-6 in conference, while Washington State improved to 9-8, 3-5.
USC was led by junior forward Tiffany Washington, who posted 14 points and 11 rebounds, while sophomore forward Tashara Carter contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman guard Tiffany Elmore collected 12 points.
Sophomore forward Tricia Lamb led Washington State with 18 points and five assists and sophomore forward Yvonne Volkman added 16 points.
The score was tied at the half after Elmore hit a three-pointer at the buzzer, bringing the score to 22-22.
Early in the second half the Women of Troy took at 30-27 lead, but could not hold on with the Cougars collecting the next 13 straight points. USC battled back to pull the score to 45-46 but could not regain their lead. Washington State then scored 12 points to USC's 2.
"I thought that Washington State asserted themselves a lot more in the second half. They took a little while to adjust to our defense." said USC head coach Chris Gobrecht, " The real difference in the game was the turnovers. We know better than to turn the ball over like that."
The Women of Troy are back in action on Saturday (1/30) at 1 p.m. in the Lyon Center. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Network.
