Women's Basketball Edges Oregon State

LOS ANGELES- The USC women's basketball team defeated Oregon State, 53-49, in a Pacific-10 contest on Sunday afternoon in the Lyon Center.
USC improves to 6-7 overall and 2-2 in the conference, while the Beavers fall to 9-4, 1-3.
Senior Adrain Williams led all scorers with 18 points and added 10 rebounds and sophomore forward Tashara Carter collected 12 points, four rebounds and three steals.
The Beavers were led by freshman guard Chassie Wiersma with 14, while junior guard Vanessa Morris contributed 11 points off the bench.
Oregon State jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first 5:18 minutes of the game before USC went on a 14-4 run to even up the score, 14-14 and held their lead the remainder of the first-half.
In the second-half USC relied on free throws, scoring 12 of their 25 points and shooting 75% from the line. The Women of Troy caused the Beavers to turnover the ball 33 times, while holding their turnovers to 21.
"We really played clutch down the stretch. We are trying to figure things out on offense. We did not get off to a good start but we got much better on defense and made the right changes." said USC head coach Chris Gobrecht.
The Women of Troy will travel to Stanford on Jan. 14 at 7:30 p.m. and will continue on to face California on Jan. 16 at 2 p.m.
