Trojans Fall to No. 13 UCLA, 82-64

LOS ANGELES - For 20 minutes on Saturday night, the USC women's basketball team looked like world-beaters. However, the second half would paint a different picture as the Women of Troy fell to No. 13 UCLA, 82-64, in a Pacific-10 Conference game at the Lyon Center in front of the largest home crowd of the season, 1,017.
USC fell to 7-16 overall and 3-11 in the conference, while the Bruins improved to 20-6, 12-2.
The Women of Troy never trailed in the first half, scoring early and often in a flurry that saw USC lead by as much as six and the score tied on six seperate occasions. USC entered the lockerroom up 36-34 at the half. UCLA staged their comeback in the second half, taking the lead on a lay-up by sophomore guard LaCresha Flannigan with just over 17 minutes to play for a 42-40 lead, and the Bruins never looked back. UCLA junior forward Maylanna Martin took control in the second half, scoring 26 of her career-high 38 points and 11 of her 18 rebounds after halftime. USC was led by senior center Adrain Williams who had her eighth double-double of the season, scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds on the evening. Williams was one of four Trojans in double figures: freshman guard Tiffany Elmore had 11 points, while junior center Tiffany Washington and sophomore forward Tashara Carter each poured in 10 points apiece. The Women of Troy next hit the road to face Washington on Thursday (Feb. 25) at 7 p.m.
