Men's Hoops wins Exhibition Opener

LOS ANGELES - The USC men's basketball team, under third-year head coach Henry Bibby, opened its exhibition season with an impressive 122-62 win over the I-Can All-Stars on Saturday (Nov. 7) in front of 500 in the Lyon Center on the USC campus.
The Trojans, who had seven players score in double digits, were led by junior forward Jarvis Turner's 21 points and freshman forward Sam Clancy's 17 points. I-Can was paced by Josh Lewis' 13 points.
USC made 47-of-74 field goal attempts and nine-of-17 from behind the three-point arc. The Trojans also forced 26 turnovers and had 12 steals.
"I thought we did some things well," Bibby said. "We moved the ball and played unselfishly. They all played hard, which is something we look for every night. We are still a long way from where we want to be, though. We had a lot of newcomers play tonight and it showed.
"Hopefully, with another week of practice and another exhibition game, we will be ready for our opener against San Diego State."
The Trojans, who led 71-23 at the half, also got 13 points from sophomore forward/center Brian Scalabrine, 12 points from senior guard Elias Ayuso, 11 points each from freshman guard Brandon Granville and sophomore guard Jeff Trepagnier and 10 points from senior forward Adam Spanich.
USC finishes its exhibition schedule against City Sports All-Stars next Saturday (Nov. 14) at 7 p.m. at the Lyon Center. The Trojans open the regular season with a non-conference game against San Diego State on Nov. 17 at the Sports Arena at 7 p.m.
