LOS ANGELES (AP) - Brian Scalabrine scored a career-high 19 points to lead USC to a 74-48 victory over Long Beach State on Tuesday.
The Trojans (3-0) had a 33-27 halftime lead but extended that with a 23-7 run to open the second half. USC went on to outscore Long Beach State 41-21 in the second half.
The 49ers (1-3) shot just 35 percent from the field and 29 percent on free throws while committing 21 turnovers. Ramel Lloyd led Long Beach State with 16 points, and Richie Smalls had a team-high nine rebounds.
Jeff Trepagnier added 12 points and three blocks for the Trojans. Greg Lakey had nine points and a team-high nine rebounds. Brandon Granville added a team-high seven assists.
The win gives USC its first 3-0 start since the 1988-89 season.
